| mySkin 1.70 released My input area / statusbar skin manager for the T3, T5, LD and TX has been updated.
Version 1.70: On the Palm T|X, you can now have a fully functional HOME button, as on earlier models: Tap on the wrench to configure. Dithering control is now enabled for all models and is off by default. Added configuration and recolorize buttons to main form. Worked around OS problem with 8-bit applications and 16-bit skins (reload skin to activate solution). http://www.palmgear.com/index.cfm?xyz=72007 http://www.zlthemes.com/Programs.php
To upgrade to new version, simply hotsync the new trial version. If you were a registered user, your new version will automatically register. If you install things not via hotsync, turn off RAM icon support before installing new version.

| I've been evaluating mySkin and have a question about where it looks for skins. I have a directory PALM\Programs\T3AgendaBG and mySkin is listing skins from that directory as well. Shouldn't it be restricted to the mySkin directory?

| mySkin searches T3AgendaBG, SkinT3, SkinDIA, mySkin and /PALM/Launcher directories.

| Okay. The downside is that if you have the same skin (by name) in more than one directory, there's no way to know which is which. As it happened, I renamed (using mySkin) the skin in the T3AgendaBG directory and then found I couldn't use it from T3AgendaBG. And before you ask why I would need to if I'm using mySkin, remember I'm evaluating :-)

That's a fair point. If memory serves me, if you rename a T3AgendaBG skin, you should have the new name begin with F3T3BG. mySkin hides that part of the name in its list, but it matters for renaming purposes. I should fix this eventually, so it gets prepended automatically when renaming a T3AgendaBG skin. Of course the issue only really comes up for T3 users now.

| Need help w/ mySkin I have a question about mySkin. I have gotten into a bit of a jam by testing it and need some expert assistance (lost my graffitti area). Thanks, Jack Quote: | Originally Posted by pruss My input area / statusbar skin manager for the T3, T5, LD and TX has been updated.

I had a similar problem. I downloaded a trial and installed it. After playing with it for a while, i decided i didnt want it. so i removed it with uninstall manager. only thing is, my grafitti area still had the skin on it. i couldnt find the file for it so i could remove it. and according to resco explorer, there was no file for it. i did a restore of my device. still there. soft reset, still there. in installed it again, and removed the skin first then the app, still there. only thing i could think of was a hard reset.

| Thanks for sharing your experience. I have a T5 and have come to the same conclusion about the hard reset but for some reason I can't get it to do it. I have contacted Palm but haven't heard back. I've done this too many times on my previous Palm devices, but this is the first for the T5. Don't know. I had a bad feeling about mySkin, seems like it is messing just too deep into the Palm coding. But I tried it anyway. Like they say, go with your first instinct.

| The status bar is kept in the file StatusBarResources.prc. All the applications that replace the DIA replace this file with the skin you select. When you decide you don't want the application, you should replace the custom skin with the default before deleting the program. The application will delete the custom skin and pull the default version from ROM. I don't believe that you can simply delete the file if your Palm is running.

For everybody's benefit, I just wanted to say that we worked through this by email today, and it turns out that the problem was unrelated to mySkin: another app (Pennovate) when installed came along with the T3 compatibility files that of course don't work on anything but the T3. Easy solution: Delete the files in Filez.

I think you CAN simply delete it, as long as the keyboard isn't on screen. That's all that mySkin does when you load the default ROM skin.

From the 1.71 manual:
To uninstall mySkin, you should choose the "Uninstall" command in the "File" menu
and then delete mySkin. In theory you could also just delete mySkin: in that case your last loaded
skin will remain until you manually disable it, or re-install mySkin and
use mySkin to disable it. Then the RAM icon protection feature
and TX home button support (but without the popup list) will remain in place until you
reset your PDA. It is not recommended to do this, as after a reset you will lose RAM icon
protection for your last loaded skin (i.e., you might get a crash on the clock popup). If
you want to keep one skin without changing it and without registering mySkin, simply keep mySkin
installed--it should keep the RAM icon protection and TX home button support going even if you
do not register (this may change in future versions).
There is one glitch: Currently the uninstall feature does not load the default OS skin. That was deliberate, as it let keep a new skin even after deinstalling mySkin. But it was obviously confusing to users so it'll be fixed in 1.72.
