| Howard Stern Chooses BlackBerry Bold Over Pre Palm gave a Pre demo unit to Howard Stern. Apparently, there are reports that Stern prefers the BlackBerry Bold.

| Blackberry sucks if you want to install lots off apps (this will become apparent with the new app store) as all apps have to reside in the main memory of the phone. Android has the same problem. Therefore on Blackberry you cannot have many good looking apps installed concurrently. |

You are right on this but this is a matter of time someone comes up with a soft like PowerRun or else to run apps from card! |

| The reason is that Stern needs to sync to Lotus Notes and the BBerry already does it. The Pre will do it thanks to Companion Link, but the soft it is still not ready (it is supposed to be ready on launch). http://www.precentral.net/howard-st...y-bold-over-pre

| In my opinion, this is a non issue.
Q: If money was no object (and I would assume that is the case for Stern) which device would you pick to use, a device you can have now or a device you will have to wait for?
A: Duh, the device you can have now. You can always re-evaluate this decision later when the other device comes available.

Don't think so!
Blackberry are no trouble units and work smoothly for business guys that don't have time to trick and reset once a day, once a week or during an important call.
Palms or even PPC are great for people like us that like to mess arround & install more & more stuff.
Why the Iphone is so popular? Simplicity even it is not so stable.
Most of the people are looking now for units that can help them to stay in touch anywhere easely!
If the pre is on the same line of the others palm that needed a lot of tweaking or addons; IT IS GOING TO BE A FAILLURE. |

I hope it doesn't fail if it needs a couple helpers though! It was fun for a while, but now I want as "stock" a device as possible that runs fast, smooth, and most of all, reliably. The stutters and reboots my 755 put me through make me want to stomp on it more all the time. I spent a couple hours this weekend deleting apps that I don't use at least weekly. I moved some others to the card as well.
As much as the Hobbyist, PalmPowerups, etc apps do for me, there are too many conflicting settings and I know they must wreak havoc on stability and performance. I've thought of stripping down to making Apt my only tweak - simply because I'd hate my Treo without it. |

You are right!
Palm has a long history of units that need tweaking and I anticipate the Pre to be the same.
Of course for us it was Fun but for the rest of the people it was not and I think this is where Palm loose the market!
I had a Treo 680 & I like it but I understand why people want something else (problem all the time with reset, DBCache, missing features that need addons, battery life, Battery drain etc........)
The BB cover all these problems and about having not enough memory; come on! The whole mortal use a lot less software than you can fit in the BB memory. |

I have had many Palms dating back to the Vx (Clie's, Treo's, as well). I, too, liked to hot rod them. But they were always stable till I started added multiple tweaks. Palm OS was designed for simplicity in look and action. Its when we all started asking it to do more than it was intended to do that it began protesting
That said, the foundation (linux) and shell (WebOS) of the Pre looks to have most of the bells and whistles we want out of the box. As my son (iPhone developer) keeps saying ......... 'the iPhone looks more dated with each successive Pre demo video'.

I see this as non-news. Do we really care what this fool likes? He is hardly typical of most people. Enjoy your BB boredom Howard.

I'll second that motion! Although I'd change the descriptor to moron.

| Hi,
Whether you like Howard Stern or not, people do listen to what he says and his not choosing to get a Pre may cause some of his listeners to overlook it as an option for their next phone.
It is kind of like the "Oprah" phenomenon where people sit on the edge of their seat to see what the next book they are going to read, based solely on her opinion.
I was always raised to make my own choices based on my research and not based on others telling me what I should choose.
I do feel this should be a non news story but when you factor in the rest of my post, it does become a story.
If the Pre is going to fill your needs and wants, buy it, if not, find a device that will.

| H.S. is no Oprah when comparing wide audience base, merchandise promotion, and earning power. :-)
Of course, you should make your decision based on your own research. |
