| Switching to a TH55, possibly My trusty 6+ year old NX70 is finally showing some signs of age. The hinge is very loose. It feels like it might fail soon.
Anything special I should be aware of or keep in mind if I upgrade to a TH55? What apps won't work? What special utilities should I get? Any favorite tweaks or hints to get the most out of this new device?
Thanks!! |

| Hi,
Both being a Clie, most or all of your apps should work just fine, not knowing what apps you are using.
If you have questions of a specific issue, check the developer site of that app or just post and someone should be able to help.
I would check the stickied posts at the top of the TH55 forum and read through those, or at least glean through them.

| The TH55 is still the best out there. I suggest contacting DanT for a unit. He may have near mint or even sealed units.
Good luck! |

| I'm doing nothing special or fancy on my NX70.
My main apps are Bonsai, DateBk6, Bible+ and WordSmith. No problem with those. What I'm most curios about are the little utilities that make the NX70 work well, like McPhling, Colorize, Fonts4OS5, Case Toggle, DALauncher, Graffiti Anywhere, OKey... Do these work on the TH55? Are they needed? Are there any utilities that I would need for the TH55 to tweak it like I did the NX70?
Also - a question on usability of the unit. The NX series are a flip models, so that when it's closed and not in use the screen is protected from damage. I've always used my NX70 'naked' - no case when I carry it in my pocket. This has never been a problem. How do you carry and use the TH55 - with the flip cover, in a case or naked? Your thoughts are appreciated. |

| Hi,
The only program you mention some concern over that I am not familiar with is OKey, the others should work just fine.
I know there are a lot of users who carry the TH55 naked, as it were, but, personally I use a Krusell flip case that the back snaps and allows access to the camera without taking the case off.
My main concern and reason for the case is dropping it and the protection of the camera on the back.

| I carry and use my TH-55 quite a bit. I am lucky that after a year the camera hasn't failed but the rear buttons has lost their color coat and some of the screws are coated with hot melt glue to make sure they don't fall off.
I use Okey for my tg-50 but not necessary for TH-55 (the virtual key board and graffiti are very intutitive. Some people claim that the video making program could ruin the TH-55, I don't know because I didn't try. I am thinking of adding the edit photo program to draw but maybe I'll just reserve that program for the TG-50.
I use the hinged cover but I think a case is good if you take your TH-55 everywhere...

I had a nice case for my now-dead N610. I was handy, but made the whole thing a bit large in my pants pocket. What is recommended for the TH55 that isn't too thick? |

| Tweaks: "THe Go! Go!" lets you make the capture button work like a power button, which is awesome because it's right at my left thumb. It also lets you change the bottom-right button (Data Assistant) and Voice Recorder button, if you want to. "ZLauncher" is indispensable; one cool thing is making the Back button bring up a little quick launch menu. Be sure to look through the threads about favorite apps. A few I couldn't do without are ClieSkinner, Palm Revolt, and PowerGuard.
Carrying it: I carried my TH-55 in my pocket with just the plastic flip cover for over four years. The hinges recently broke a second time, so I started carrying it without that even. I make sure the screen faces my leg in my pocket, just in case I bump into something. Philpalm reminded me in another post that the power button can slide up to put it on hold so it doesn't accidentally turn on. |

| I finally switched!! I bought a used one from DanT - my 'new' TH55 is really sweet. Very good condition, and quite compact compared to the NX70
Seeing as I've had my NX70 for six years now (it's anniversary was yesterday, how ironic!), I've got quite used to how it works. It will be a slight learning curve to get used to the TH55. A wimpy small stylus, a scroll tumbler on the back and no flip-closed-and-go moves come to mind immediately. I'll also have to give 'it' a name. Decisions, decisions!
I'll have a few questions over the next few days as I try and get my 'new' Clie.
Off the bat - what is the best way to switch from one type of unit to another? Just hotsync the new one? I guess I'll have to keep the same hotsync name otherwise I'll have to but all new applications. Any special advice or hints?
Thanks! |

| First of all, DO NOT hotsync 2 devices with the same user name.
Many software setting files are device specific, so doing so would screw up your new device in strange ways (crashes...). If you already did, I'd suggest to hard reset your new device while doing a sync with the old one with the "handheld overwrites desktop" setting on every single conduit.
Now, in the case you are sure your data on your desktop is up to date with the old device, go download the Clie data migration tool: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/sw...d=1481&os_id=15
Create a new device user name on Palm desktop, use the migration tool to copy over your PIM data from the old user name to the new user name.
Then sync your newly heard reseted TH55 with the new user name. Now you have your PIM data on there.
As for 3rd party applications & data I would suggest to reinstall everything from scratch to avoid instabilities. Of your app list, I don't see much issues. Okey made my NX73 unstable, so I didn't use it with my TH55. Colorize is completely stable, but it's settings would be overridden and revert to default color themes whenever you launch Clie Organizer, Music/Movie player and NetFront. If you've used Netfront a lot, you might want to move over the bookmarks, I'd suggest you to goto Clie flies on your NX, copy out any files with the name starting with "NF3BOOKMARK..." to a memory stick and manually install them to your TH55. You could do the same with "NF3URLHISTORYDB" and "NF3COOKIEDB" if needed.
Have fun with your new TH55! |

| I don't want a new user name, I want to use the same one as I had. I want to stop syncing the NX70 and sync just the TH55 to my computers.
I'll make sure that the NX70 is synced and the DT is up to date. Then I'll run the migration tool and sync the TH55. After that I'll install all the software on the TH55. That's my plan for tonight/tomorrow. |

| I see that there are numerous software updates for the TH55 on the Sony page. Should I install those after I am all set up? |

| If you don't want a new user name, I would suggest that you try:
1. Set up a new user name anyways
2. Do the migration to the new user
3. Change the old user name to something else, such as "backup"
4. Change the new user name to whatever you want
As for the updates, do them as you please, they didn't do any noticeable difference to my TH55. They are mostly minor bug fixes, the bus so small that only under rare usage conditions do they show up. |

| OK, getting close to having it mostly dome. I've got some more questions.
What programs work on the TH55 for remapping the status bar and silk screen?
How can I change the settings for the 'home' button?
I used OKey on the NX70 to put scroll up / scroll down buttons on the status bar - anything like that for the TH55? |
