#1 | | Guest | To Upgrade or not to Upgrade?? I own a clie SJ-30 and I really love it...
But right now I need to get a digital recorder for work. (Have to record what the boss has to say in meetings... )
Just want any opinion, should I get a seperate digital recorder or to upgrade my pda to a different model that has a built in recorder??
If I do upgrade my pda, which model that has the similar design, function (or better) as the SJ-30??
thanks for your help!! | |

first, if u wanna buy seperate digital recorder .. they are pretty cheap now .. but i would recommend you to get new pda because you can carry 1 pda for all the work you need .. (carry sj30 with a digital recorder .. not a very good idea .. and the pda below will suit you work for a long time)
TG50 and NX70V are good to go ..
they are about the same price now ..
TG50 is much smaller than NX70V .. $345 at gotapex.com
NX70V has more features .. camera, vdo camera, and digital recording as well .. dont expect too much about the low resolution of the camera .. $363 at overstock.com
think about it ..

| I'm biased but the NX90 is perfect for pretty much everything!

I've been wondering about this, too.
Are the digital voice recorders on the newer Clies good enough to record business meetings with several people in attendance? Or are they more like digital voice recorders on cell phones, ie, just good for recording personal notes:
"Note to self: check out digital voice recorders on newer Clies--are they any good?" |

The built-in microphone is not all that sensitive, better off with a separate DVR. They are small and can take bouncing around better, plus being easier to carry.

You forgot to say that the NX has a bigger screen.

| I agree that you should just buy a seperate voice recorder unless you plan on using the voice recorder out of business meetings extensively. |

| Point 1: You have a perfectly good PDA for your other needs (I assume based on your comments).
Point 2: The built-in recorder in other PDAs is not quite up to the job of recording meetings.
Point 3: Recording a meeting is not a 'spur of the moment' kind of thing. You usually know when it will be needed, so can bring the correct items to the meeting and store them in a drawer other times.
Point 4: If your Clie is recording a meeting, can you still use it for other tasks at the same time (without disturbing the recording quality)?
Conclusion: Get a good recorder and mike to use at work, keep your Clie available for other things.
UNLESS you want to upgrade for additional reasons, but even so, I think I'd STILL suggest a seperate meeting recording device.

Robrecht, he's not my boss... and I think he has a point...
Thanks for all of you advice... after all of your input, I looked up some of the prices of digital recorders, they are really expensive... if i really want to get a seperate recorder, I'll have to pay an equal amount of what I paid for my SJ-30... (around $200-250) is it really worth getting one I guess it's up to me... but what do you guys think?? |

| Here's a plan: Use the situation as an excuse to get an NX, NZ or TG. Try the recording function. In the event it isn't good enough, have your BOSS get you a DVR for business purposes. (He gets the write-off/depreciation break for the company.) You end up with a new PDA and the DVR!
