| T665 and remote email I have a Clie T665 and want to be able to receive email while I'm away from my office. I would guess I could get a modem for it or somehow hook it to my cell phone, but I was looking for some good advice from others how have already ventured into remote email services.
Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Right now I have Verizon as my carrier and a basic AudioVox cell phone. My contract agreement is about to run out and I am (my wife and I) are looking to upgrade our phones and service. So the phone or provider is not the issue right now.
One feature of interest to me is the ability to receive email while on the road since I travel a good bit for work. I live by my Clie T665 and would like to work it into the equation.
Thanks, Jack |

| If you are tight on a budget, use a cell phone with an infra-red port so that you can use that to link up with your pda. You'll need to set up your connection and network preferences, and use an e-mail app that can access your account.
If you are well off, get a bluetooth Module for your Memory stick and a corresponding bluetooth enabled cell phone. Basically the only advantage of this over the other is that you don't have to keep the cell phone aligned to the infra red port of the pda. Everything else above applies.
stay cool, dude.

| Hi
Does anyone really try the bluetooth module with the T665? How is the result? Are you able to surf the web and send/receive email? Beside ebay, do you have any idea where to get the bluetooth module from an online store or something? Is Sony USA going to sell it module soon or later? |

| JLperdue,
If you want to do e-mail on the road with mobile phone, there are 2 ways of doing it and you need to consult your carrier whether they provide these services.
1. Using dial up. Your service with your carrier must be data enable and you would use your mobile phone as a modem. Naturally, your mobile phone must be modem enable. Consult your local mobile phone store to see which phone have the function and fit your budget. You would also need to link your mobile phone with your T665. You could either purchase a cable to connect (again, consult your local mobile phone store to select the cable to the mobile phone of your choice) or you could use a infra-red (provide the mobile phone of your choice has an infra red capability) or your could use a bluetooth (provided the mobile phone of your choice has a bluetooth capability) to connect to T665. The dial up connection uses the same principal as your home PC. The normal connection rate using this method is about 9kbps. Normally, the carrier charge you by the time of the connection.
2. GPRS Connection. You would also need to consult your carrier whether they provide this service. If your carrier do have this service, then you would need to choose a GPRS enable mobile phone. The connection from mobile phone to T665 is the same as above. A GPRS service with GPRS mobile phone means that your connection with internet can be "always on" and you could download e-mail and surfing without "logging out". The transfer rate of GPRS service is consider very fast at 56kbps. The carrier usually charge you by the amount of data you download and upload. This can be cheaper for you if you have lots of e-mails. Please consult your carrier for this service plan. The set up of GPRS can be some what complicated but your carrier can help you on this.
I presume you have a POP e-mail software to go with your T665. If not, there are many threads in this forum to lead you.
I hope this could help you.

| The best GPRS phone in the market now is SonyEricsson T68i. It has more features than any other phones. Some of their main features are:
1. Tri-bands: means you could use the phone in most of the world which has GSM services.
2. Bluetooth Builtin: means you could connect with your T665 without wire in the distant of 10meters or any other accecosries such as bluetooth earphone.
3. MMS: Multimedia Message Services (if your carrier provide the services) allow you to receive pictures and sound from SMS.
4. Upgradeable OS: Whenever the manufacturer upgrade their software, you can get an upgrade from their service center.

| Beside using a GPRS phone(Sorry I don't have one, I'm using Sprint PCS vision), did anyone try using a bluetooth adapter that plug-in to your PC USB port, which will allow you to surf the web and send/receive email. Also perform the hotsync with your PC? |

| I've been doing this for years now, first with a Psion 5mx, then my m505 and now with my 615.
You just need a data enabled phone, I use a (now old) Nokia 7110, set up the info from your ISP and email, line up the IR ports and way ya go.
It's probably far more straightforward than setting up your home computer methinks!
I also have a Psion IR modem which I can use when I'm away or before leaving home to take stuff on the go. This is much faster than a mobile and cheaper.
I use SnapperMail which is just awesome and soon to come out of beta. You can send and receive attachments and link them to a number of apps on your Palm device. www.snappermail.com
I also use Xiino for a web browser which is quick and works well for me. You can set certain pages which you want to "Cruize" at the press of a button. www.ilinx.co.jp/en
Good luck - Vince |

#15 | | Guest | Sprint PCS Vision and Sony Clie I got a data cable from this site ( www.thesupplynet.com) and I was able to surf the web and chat on icq with my Clie T665. The speed was good about 46k max. The power consumption was way less that I thought. If anyone wants to get the detail on how to set up this task, please post your request on this forum and I'll post the instruction. Have fun! Next step I'll get the bluetooth memory stick. | |
