| Google Chrome... Its actually very cool. I love the very simplistic design, there isn't much of a menu beside two lil buttons near the very awesome omni bar. Wonder why it took a while for someone to figure out to have one bar be used for searches and urls. No more lil sidebar google search area. The tabs are great and I love the icon telling your in 'incognito' mode. The bar is lil darker blue and there is a lil spy icon. Very nice. The one thing its missing is the meter telling you what percentage the webpage has loaded. Its also very fast, I am taking a break from Safari for now and using this because its faster than Safari, though the font isn't as smooth as safari but its ok. One other great thing is when you open up a new empty tab, it will have a most visited website collection for you to choose if you want to visit that site. Very nice. I love opening up Chrome and just picking from the selection, hardly using the omni bar to go to my favorite webpages.

| we've been discussing it over at Brighthand here .
The consensus has been thumbs down. The setup app doesn't give you a choice of where you install (installs to the dreaded Documents and Settings directory). There have already been several US-CERT advisories the latest is: Code: US-CERT Current Activity
Google Releases Chrome Version 0.2.149.29
Original release date: September 9, 2008 at 9:14 am
Last revised: September 9, 2008 at 9:14 am
Google has released Chrome version 0.2.149.29 to address multiple
vulnerabilities. The four vulnerabilities are due to the following:
1. a buffer overflow condition in the handling of filenames displayed
in the "Save As" dialog
2. a buffer overflow condition in the handling of link targets
displayed in the status area when a user hovers over a link
3. an out-of-bounds memory read error when parsing URLs ending with
:%
4. a default configuration that allows files to be downloaded to the
desktop without prompting the user first
Exploitation of these vulnerabilities may allow an attacker to execute
arbitrary code or cause a denial-of-service condition.
Google has indicated that the fixed version is being applied to all
users through automatic updates. US-CERT encourages users to review
the Chrome 0.2.149.29 release notes and upgrade if the newest version
has not been automatically applied.

Chrome doesn't distinguish FF multiple profiles when it imports. It has trouble rendering the same pages Opera does (same rendering engine - should have used Mozilla). A REAL deal breaker is that roboform doesn't work with it. Needless to say, I immediately uninstalled it.
That said, I like the idea of separate processes for each tab, the incognito tab, etc.
Oh well. I'm waiting for it to come out of Beta. Which may mean I'll be waiting a long time after all Gmail is still in Beta |
