| AvantGo, Isilo, or Netfront? I've been using Avantgo to read news from CNN/MSNBC etc. and to get daily weather for my city(good ol' Peoria, IL) from MyYahoo. It hasn't behaved well with my MS or my CF (doesn't seem to want to update it ...and yes AGconnect is in RAM and I named my storage cards).
I was wondering if Isilo, or Netfront offered the same kind of functionality. I don't really want to "surf" because I don't have a WiFi card. I just want to sync up info for offline viewing.
Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks,

| What do you mean by it doesn't behave well?
I'm sure we can fix what's wrong. there are plenty of us who are using AG on our MS or CF. |

| Here's basically what happens to me:
1. I install Avantgo using the AVsetup file from my desktop.
2. I hotsync it to my Clie (NX70/V)
3. I copy it to the MS using the copy function from the Palm launcher.
4. Configure AGConnect on the Clie to use "MS1" (volume name for my MS)
5. Hotsync again.
At this point things go just fine. However, after 2 to 3 days of hotsyncing each day, I start getting a message from the avantGo conduit that saya "server unexpectedly closed the connection" every time I hotsync.
At this point, all I have to do is put AvanGo back in RAM and everything works again.
Any thoughts?

If you copy the application itself to MS it should not work. Only the data can be on a card. |

| Avantgo can go onto the memory stick, the only thing that should remain in RAM is AGConnect (needed for sync)
works fine |

| Yep, I'm running AvantGo from my MS. I've just installed the latest release, copied it to my MS with Zlauncher, set to sync to card in AG Connect, resync'd and it works.
However, the latest version (Build 83) for some reason seems to be slower when running from my MS.

| I have had trouble with Avantgo correctly obtaining movie listings in yahoo movies. Has anyone found a more consistent source for movie listings to put on our Clies? I am not sure where the problem lays. Avantgo seems to be syncing the page of listings, but the dates are scrambled and seem to be stuck on April 1st. |

| ISilo and Plucker (hires.plkr.org) can be used for similar purposes, but content providers aren't as likely to have customized their stuff for it.

| Has anybody had experience with Handstory. It looks like a nice package but the price is a little high.

| I bought the Handstory Suite for my NX and I am pretty happy with it. They have clips that are hosted on the Handstory server, and you can also make custom clips that your desktop goes out and grabs from your specified urls. I grabbed Handstory because it works so well with the MS. It will also read e-books and manage your memos, but I use it exclusively for web clippings. One thing I REALLY like is that Handstory downloads all of your clips on it's own, not while you are hotsyncing. Avantgo always slowed my hotsyncs down soo much, I couldn't just do a qiuck hotsync and leave, I had to wait for it to update megs of clippings. With Handstory, it clips on it's own, so it is much faster for me. Handstory also lets you have unlimited clippings, and unlimited custom clips, because it is not server based like Avantgo. With Avantgo, unless you want t spend extra money, you are limited to 2meg.
Unfortunately, they don't put out a demo of the suite. There is a free version that has limited features, and most of these missing features were the features I needed on my NX. I made a leap of faith and went ahead and bought the suite package, and I am pretty happy with it.
My major problem right now is that most of my custom clips hang whlie I'm clipping them form my desktop... but this seems to be a problem with the servers the websites are on, and not a problem with Handstory. |

That really helps. I don't mind spending a little extra for a really well thought out product and Avantogo and My PDA just don't seem to get along. Especially with the advent of using the MS and CF. It just doesn't seem to like one thing or another each time I hotsync and I'm tired of the re-installs, copying to MS/CF etc.
It was either Handstory or Isilo, but Handstory seems more seamless at this point.
Regards,
