| NVBackup 1.22 beta I just posted 1.22b4. New feature: you can select an alphabetic range when doing a selective restore. (Menu | (un)select range) For instance, you can select a-m. This is useful for quickly narrowing down on a problem when diagnosing. http://pruss.homeip.net/alex/NVBackup.prc

Alex - great!!!! Wow I wish I had this a couple of months ago. I used NVB in exactly that way to restore my device, but get rid of some problems. I selectively restored alphabetic ranges and in so doing eliminated at least 4 problems I have been living with for many months!
thanks for a great update to this already fantastic software! |

| Amazing! I had to do that by clicking on every box from a chosen letter or range. Thanks!
Update: when doing "Unselect range", I get a soft reset. Tried both with everything checked or unchecked, this last option is illogic, I know.
This is what I get: (Emul68K Common.c, Line:1648, Index out of range).
No problem with "Select range" though. Hope this helps.
Regards,

What four problems were you having and what things did you eliminate to get rid of those problems?
Curious since I'm always troubleshooting something. Right now I have a few apps that are not as "zippy" as they once were. I'm thinking I might have restricted my CleanStart/UnCache too much, but I've been opening up stuff and still not that great. I don't want to go back to a restore point that is so old that I will end up having to redo a lot of my preferences for several apps.
By the way, Pruss, thank you again for NVBackup!! Still my LifeDrive Saver! |

| I just installed 1.22b4, - chose selective restore of my most recent set,
- selected a range (a-e)
- the range showed up as checked
- I selected unselect range
- My device reset
Error code from crash
emul68kcommon.c, Line:1648, index out of range
I tried it twice with the same result. (tried different ranges just in case) |

Don't remember all of them, but showbattery latest version from henk kept crashing my TX while v 1.0 didn't, Crash Pro seemed to have problems as well - at least when I moved it to the card my device became more stable. I was testing Agendus 12.05 at the time and everytime I initiated a new task it crashed on me (this turned out to be a corrupted database and restoring from an earlier set fixed it). Those are the 3 I remember offhand. |

| Alex, while you're making mods could you please consider 2 other features?
1) It would be VERY helpful to know the number of files selected when ticking files in a Selective Restore.
2) Most of my selective restores are 1 to 4 or 5 files. Having a 'pause' at the end of the progress/restore screen before rebooting would be another nice feature so we could read which file(s) may have been skipped and why.
Thanks for hearing me out |

| Another feature to consider (not in this release just some time latter): The ability to see the creator-ID and type in the selective restore list. There was a time where I wanted to restore all the DBs associated with a given application, or all the files except those associated with a given application. |

I tried it twice with the same result. (tried different ranges just in case) | I can confirm this on my TX too. Same message from Crash.

Thanks, Dick, at least I know it isn't just my device. |

| Hi,
thanks for the great program! Saved me many hassles!
I have a question regarding encryption:
You say it has 128bit AES encryption through the built in Palm AESLib.prc library.
Now I just downloaded tejpwriter which includes a separate AESLib.prc (see: http://copera.com/AESLib/index.html).
The author of tejpwriter claims 256 bit encryption. It seems the library he uses can be used by any software developer for free.
If I replace the built in AESLib.prc with the copera AESLib.prc will NVBackup automatically use this library without problem? Will I then be able to do 256 bit encryption? And if not, would you be interested in adding 256 bit encryption to your wonderful software using this free library?
Thank you for your help.
Regards,
Brandell |

| Are you interested in entering a 42 character passphrase for the encryption?

| Sorry - I just saw that NVbackup also uses the Copera AESLib.
Would it then be possible to activate 256 bit encryption with this library?
Thanks.

| Hi Alex,
we crossposted - here is my answer to your reply:
Thank you for your quick reply.
Would it be possible that you meant 32 character instead of 42 character, since 32 character is the key length for a 256 bit key?
Then I wonder why we are not forced to enter 16 characters for the 128 bit encryption that is being used by NVBackup currently?
Using the SHALib you can hash shorter passwords and use Cipher Block Chaining (CBC) to make it even more secure. Is NVBackup not using these practices currently?
It would be nice to have 256 bit keys ...
Thanks.
Regards,
Brandell
