| Asus EEE PC 4G I received my Asus UMPC last evening by UPS (and they sure took their sweet time about it, too!). I really like it. It's smaller than I expected, but that's good. I was worried about the keyboard, but I am having no issues so far. I replaced the 512mb RAM with 1GB right away. Still some Linux tweaking to do, but this is was a good purchase. |

| The biggest user site that I have found so far is eeeuser.com. There are great forums and and extensive wiki that has helped me out a lot with my linux noobness. Is that a word - noobness? It should be.
My biggest need is to get my Treo to sync with it and get my Brother MFC5440cn set up. |

| I am actually looking into getting this. It will be coming to US on Jan 25 2008. This my friends is way better than the EEE PC. Some people hate the style of it but I love it ... http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/09/...-by-months-end/
Faster Processor, more HDD space, ~3 HR batt life with WiFi on. WiFi, BT, Web Cam. Looking forward to making it better as well if I decide I am definately getting it.
BTW the card slot can read SD and MS Pro cards for all those Palm and CLIE fans out there like me. It also uses DVI out. Not only that, its $400 with all that. EEE PC is overrated IMHO!
Forgot to mention the screen's backlight is LED.

Reason: Same memory amount in both devices!

| Cloudbook uses the ULV Via CPU so I'm not so sure about the performance. We have to wait and see. I also expect the bootup to be quite a bit slower, due to conventional hard drive. Furthermore, there have been reports of Asuses "SplashTop" (an simplified interface for multimedia playback, internet, and chat, which boots in under 5 seconds) might be coming to eee soon, which would give it Foleo's instant on capability (at least for simple tasks)
Also, I didn't see the "BT" spec mentioned anywhere by everex. The DVI slot is a nice addition though.

It has Bluetooth. I've read it in a review. I also just care about XP. I wouldn't use Splashtop anyway. I also don't like the fact that the ASUS only has 4GB. I watched a video with the OQO which basically has the same hardware and a guy was playing some older games like COunterStrike with no problem. Only problem was controls. Game played smoothly. Also, on YouTube, someone has an actual Cloudbook and the performance looks great.
The Cloudbook takes like 6 seconds to come out of standby. Not bad. My monitor on my computer takes 5 sec. So I am used to that anyway.
I need the 30GB. I think Flash Memory is in too early of a stage to be useful now. I think 16GB is like the minimum. But that's me. I have also seen like 3 people at my school with the EEE PC. I want to see how the Cloudbook does since I've seen and tried the EEE. All three people had Linux on it which was quick but disappointing because I would run Windows XP since all my programs are 100% Windows Compatible while not 100% WINE compatible.
If I get one, I'll be doing a full-blown review with video and everything (if I have the time or if I get it). I really hope I do. It would make for a great birthday gift . I was going to get a Kaiser but I might get this and stick with the Dash (Internet Tethering via Windows Mobile and USB . Sure EDGE is slow but its better than GPRS and better than nothing.)

| Can you please point me to that review? All the sources I've seen (even Everex's own site) mention nothing of BT.
The OS on cloudbook should be interesting as its basically Ubuntu with a different window manager and there should be Plenty of software for it.
I've got the EEE and am very happy with it, it does pretty much all that i need on the go (IM, Skype, Web, Office, Web Design, and SNES emulation )

Same here! I thought I was the only one. Great minds think alike eh?
Anyway, I love the design of the Cloudbook -- of how you can grasp it just under that screen, and of how you can use its trackpad and buttons at the sides. IMHO, that's brilliant design. |

| The Cloudbook even has a 1.3 MP camera compared to the EEE's .3 MP camera. I also have a feeling if I added a SSD to it, it would last longer than the EEE since it matches up with the EEE with a convential HDD.
Something to consider. The only thing is that the Cloudbook (aka Nanobook) only has 512MB of RAM and is preinstalled with Linux. Everything else in the chart is the accurate. The price is also $400 not $600. My apologies.

| Don't care about the specs. Specs mean nothing for something like this.
How do they *FEEL*?
How's the keyboard? Comfortable? Responsive? Nice tactile-ness?
Does the laptop feel solid or flimsy? Creaking? Flexing?
Does the hinges look like they'll crack after repeated open/shutting?
How's the screen? Good colour balance? Any ghosting?
Backlight - Bright enough for day use but can be made dim enough for night use?
How heavy? Could you hold it in one hand while gesticulating wildly or while perched on a the top of a ladder trying to find a patch panel? Would it be likely to slip out?
I'm waiting for the Eee with the bigger screen (After playing with my N800, I've decided 800x480 is nowhere near big enough for what I'd use it for. You can't even browse most mainstream webpages at that rez without Opera! I want at least 1024x768 or 1280x800 or something like that but in a unit the same size as the Eee... Someone crank out those high dot-density screens!!) |

| It's certainly possible to get those density screens, at about 4 times the current price for the device. The screen is probably the most expensive part of a laptop, and the bigger it is, the more it costs, and the increase is not linear, but close to geometric. The Eee keyboard feels about like any other laptop, just smaller. It's light enough to carry, gesticulate with, or whatever. The hinges are large and seem solid, not at all likely to break. |

In terms of the cloudbook, I posted a video review that goes over things like brightness (LED-based), hinge strength, using the hole under screen for better holding of device. I agree that 7" is somewhat too small as well but after actually trying out 1 out of the 3 ASUS EEE's I've seen at my school, and seeing the screen, it doesn't look that bad. I am also tired of carrying my 15" PowerBook to class due to its too heavy. I don't see this as my main machine. I have a desktop PC in my room. The UMPC is basically a large PDA IMHO. No PDA has been able to get the full-web down perfectly (not even the iPhone). Windows XP running on a UMPC will give me the full internet. So when I am doing a project that requires a random codec, Windows suppports it. That's how I see this thing. I've always considered the Palm 3.8" screen on the TX to be huge. 7" is only better. Again, this is an upgrade to my PDAs not my computer.
The Cloudbook will be at Walmart on January 25 so I hope to check it out at that time. Try the keyboard out etc.
