| I guess I see the point, although if he just releases the Lib's he wrote, I don't really see the problem. And couldn't it be one of the "If you've owned a device that came with Clie Organizer, then you are entitled to use on all devices you use"? I guess you would have to read the Sony Clie License Agreement..... |

Not sure this is a good argument.
My thought is, if it does get released, then his apps are fair game to be broke too.
If he wants to be a developer, he needs to show some respect for the work, and the ownership of said work.
Personally, I think there has been too much of monkeying around and sharing this and that from the different PDA's everyone owns on here anyways.
Not my site tho.

| As Sony isn't active in PDA business anymore, this shouldn't be a problem - the German PalmWiki does handle it this way and has some uploads of Sony's software for some years - and without problems. The same thing applies to SonyClie.org.
PicselBrowser and NetFront is not Sony's problem (and imho Picsel Browser has NOTHING to do with Sony and its PDAs). Anyways, the developer of Picsel asked them to remove all download links. Access, the owner of NetFront, didn't do anything imho. |

I'm not sure if it is a good arguement either, but I believe this is what Dmitry said about NetFront, and if one application from a Sony device is licensed that way, they probable all are. Right? |

| Hi,
My understanding is that Clie Organizer was developed by is a Sony app and not licensed from an outside company like Netfront was from Access.
As for sites hosting apps and not having problems from Sony, not seeing this as justifying it.
Steal and do not get caught, it is still wrong.
Maybe an extreme point but works for illustrative purposes here.
I am not trying to stir this issue again here as I am not in a position to make policy here.
These are when I should just stop posting as I know I will get poked in the eye for posting an opinion.
Have a nice day.

| Jeez, every Palm device is growing weaker and weaker everyday and the fact that some users out there are trying to improve on them is frowned upon? Why not be able to switch programs from different devices? You're talking about a company that is too stupid and lazy to improve on THEIR OWN devices. You make it sound like they are pouring their blood and sweat into this when they won't even make the proper repairs to their OS and hardware. |

Palm makes a crappy pda and this is motivation to pillage the intellectual property from another maker?
WOW!

Did not say he was stealing but if he releases this, then it is the same issue.
So Sony does not retain rights to something if it has been discontinued?
WOW! talk about a jump.
Last time I saw an attempted jump like that was over the Snake River Canyon and it ended in a dramatic failure too.

| I think you are mixing things up Harpgliss. We do not actually know what Dmitry has done. If he has "Patched" CO, and releases it, I could see the problem. But if he writes a "Compatibility Layer" to allow something to run on a device, that is quite a different thing. The "stealing" part would be done by the end user who illegally downloads and uses something on a device that the software (in this case Clie Organizer) was not intended, and also the owner of the sever that hosts these downloads. |

| Hi,
If he releases any software that enables users to use CO for a pda which it was not designed for is the same issue.
I really dislike going into this as I am going to get poked at here for having this opinion and I am quite tired for it.
So I am going to bow out of this discussion now before things get heated.
I do respect the opinions voiced here and hope mine will be also.
CO is a great program but just not worth all this discussion, imo.
Bye.

| I don't know if what you stated is correct, if he wrote all the code based on his ideas, I don't know if it would be violating copyrights. As I said before, you would have to read the license agreements from the devices Clie Organizer came on. Wouldn't it be like saying that a company that allows Windows to be run in a Virtual Machine, is somehow wrong because the person obtained Windows illegally? If Dmitry writes software that allows software to run on a device that software was not intended, does not mean he's breaking a license. Someone using Dmitry's software in a illegal way, would be a problem IMHO. Just out-loud thinking I guess |

| LJP is not being sued for alowing gameboy games to be played on a Tx, so long as they dont inclued the ripped games.
Dmitry should not get in trouble for alowing CO to be used on a Tx, so long that he doesnt inclued the ripped CO files in his patch.
