TX power on problem

(if I have overlooked a thread regarding this problem please delete this thread)

My TX has a button problem. It only switches on after a few buttonpresses, both the powerbutton as the application buttons have this problem. This occurs totaly random. sometimes I can switch my TX on without any problem and a few minutes later I have to press the powerbutton (or one of the application buttons) up to 3-4 times. Switching off is also problematic...but not as much as switching on.

But....after my TX is switched on all applicationbuttons work absolutely flawless. They register every buttonpress, 100%.

I've tried both soft- and hard resets without any succes. Out of the box or loaded with software also doesn't make any difference.

I contacted Palm about this and thy told me to return it and get a new one (device is only one week old) but my retailer wants to send it in for repair. No matter what way I choose....i'll be without a PDA for several weeks.

My question is....is this a known problem and is there a "workaround"??
TIA.

Well....are you pushing the buttons hard enough? I jsut got a ne wtX and kinda noticed the same thing. Sometimes the buttons click, but they don't make electrical contact.
It seems like thats it for me at least

I had something like that happen this morning. The buttons wouldn't turn it on -- I ended up doing soft resets to activate it. Checked and toggled the keylocking and it seemed to free it up - even though that was set to NEVER.

Similiar though not as total as your situation.

Mine does the same - I find I have to give a more positive (longer) press - thought maybe it was a 'feature' to prevent switching on with accidental key presses LOL!

Mine does the same too.
If you have earphones plugged in, you can perfectly hear how the T|X turns on, then turns off, so it's not a key problem.

I've only noticed that sometimes I have to press a little bit harder than I'm used to on my TX's buttons. My TT's reaction to button presses seemed like it needed a much lighter touch.

You're right, noticed it too. It's not a matter of pushing hard or soft...gave it a try.

That's exactly what I have found.

When the unit is off, you have to press the buttons (power or the 4 app buttons) just a little longer.

When the unit is on, then a quick press of the buttons will do.

And yes, it's reproducible (at least for me).

So I was thinking to myself that although this isn't documented, perhaps this is done by design to prevent the unit from turning on accidentally. And I've grown to appreciate this little undocumented feature since.

My TX does the same.
I have two theories, in my opinion every time you have to press twice or more the power button, is because one of this situations:
OFF METHOD: If the TX powers off itself, it is very possible that you have to press the power button twice, first to "power off" and second to power on.
BATTERY: If batteries are below 30%, it is possible that in the power-on procedure the tx goes off, It might do a screen flash or not, but always makes a noise in the speaker. After some tries, 3~4, eventually turns on.
Hope this helps.

found a retailer who wanted to help me out by exchanging my TX for a NEW one.

The new TX didn't show this "poweron" problem......for two days. Without installing anything since day one all of a sudden I had to press the power button several times in order to switch on my Palm. I don't feel much like changing it for another one because it looks like it's you have to be lucky to get one that doesn't show this kind of behaviour.

I'm having a similar problem with mine, and it isn't being solved by pressing the buttons harder and longer. That happens sometimes too, but other times I end up having to do a soft reset to get it to turn on. This is a particularly troublesome issue because it means that most of the time my alarms don't go off because the TX can't turn on. I have a few system extensions installed, but not many. I've got that thing that takes the white border off, plus SharkBtn and zLQuickLaunch+.

Good Heavens!
I was just about the start a thread with this new problem! ^^^^^^

I have the exact same problem! Sometimes, only a soft reset will switch the unit on.
I have the white borders thing, and ZL quick launch. I don't have Shark Btn and so I don't think it's that. It might be one of the other two. My TX is only about ten days old, but I don't think it was there from the start.

I've been wondering if I am missing some keylock thing.

hmmm... a good friend of mine has a TX (he's the one who reccomended that I get mine) and he's got the FrameTX fix on his and hasn't complained about anything like this. I don't think he uses QL+ though. I'm going to try disabling that and see if that helps anything, I'll keep you updated.

Well, in my case this problem also shows up on a fresh "hard reset" TX.....it absolutely doesn't make any difference.
