| Im a noob with multiple questions I just got a mint condition Palm Vx at a tag sale for $5. And I have two questions. I have ROM version 3.5.3. Is there a newer ROM version for the palm Vx. If so where may I get it and how would I go about installing it by the serial cable?
My second question is is there a program which allows you to control your Palm from your desktop computer?
Sorry if these have been answered before.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

| Hello!
Welcome to the source
As far as I remember, there was an rom upgrade for the Vx to upgrade it to v4.1 but was available only on CDs and I don't think you'll find it easily anywhere (at least not legally).
As for a way to control the Palm from a PC, the only solution(s) which come to mind are for OS v4+... Assuming of course you mean something like this: http://www.mobilityware.com/HandSha...hareProduct.htm |

Awww. Darn. I saw a bunch of posts on this forum about upgrading to 4.1 and stuff and was hoping to be able to do it also.
Thanks for the info though.
Oh and would you know where I could buy the cd for the upgrade (if I really have to buy it I will)? Quote: | Originally Posted by alt236 |

Thank you for all your help,

| This from Palm's website:
If your Palm V, Vx, III, IIIx, IIIxe or IIIc handheld is running Palm OS 4.1, it means that it was upgraded via a discontinued software package. In the past, Palm, Inc., offered a Palm OS Upgrade CD-ROM for Palm V, Vx, III, IIIx, IIIxe and IIIc handhelds. The software upgraded your handheld to Palm OS 4.1 and could be purchased for an additional charge. This upgrade is no longer available from Palm, and we can not offer it for download on our web site. However, the Palm OS Upgrade CD-ROM may still be offered in secondary markets; check accessory vendors, online auction sites or overstock retailers for availability.
Hope it helps |

| Palm V and Palm Vx can be upgraded to OS 4.1. Not sure if this is possible with a cable - I used the craddle and upgrade went just OK. |

| For more discussion on this upgrade, see the OS4.1 for a Palm III? thread. In that thread I mentioned that Expansys claimed to still have it. No more. However, they do still claim that some of their international sites still have the EU version. I do not know if the EU version works on the US Vx or not.
Does any one remember, was the international version of the Vx EFIGS or were there different versions of the Vx for each language?
If it was EFIGS, then I would expect the EU version to not work (not enough Flash ROM space). If it was multiple language versions, then I would expect the EU version would work, you would just select Engish when installing the upgrade. |

| This link discusses some of the direct serial workarounds: http://www.1src.com/forums/showthre...b+direct+serial
Mostly I have Windows xp with direct serial plugs, but purchasing a card or usb adaptor cord costs more than your pda.
If you really want to run that dinosaur maybe get an old computer that someone is throwing away....

| Found a CD I found out today that my REALLY computer smart friend (has 30 computers) has the upgrade CD and he is willing to let me use it.
Also if you upgrade and it doesn't do it right will it be permanently broken or can you just try to reflash it or will it just go back to the old one or what?
And also I have the serial cradle with built in A/C charger. So how would I Flash it with that one? |

| If Your friend's CD does not do the job, PM me.
Usually the flash utility and the ROM are packaged in a single executable. You start it and just follow the instructions... |
