Thumbs up MotionApps and Palm Announce mDayscape Personal Information Manager for Palm Foleo

Press Release

MotionApps Provides Calendar, Contacts and Tasks Application for New Generation of Mobile Device

SAN FRANCISCO & SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jun 18, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- MotionApps and Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) today announced that mDayscape Personal Information Manager will be available for the new Palm(R) Foleo(TM) mobile companion. mDayscape lets customers manage calendar, contacts and tasks on the Foleo and synchronizes with a Treo smartphone to access personal information on the go.

(NOTE: Palm announced the Foleo mobile companion on May 30. Video and images are available from Palm's Multimedia Library (www.palm.com/MultimediaLibrary).)

The Palm Foleo mobile companion is for people who understand that sometimes less is more. With the press of one button, the mobile companion's large screen displays wireless e-mail from a paired smartphone. A smartphone is great for finding quick bits of information or sending a brief response to an e-mail. But there are times when a full-size keyboard and a big screen is preferred to view attachments, type longer emails, or to get a bigger-screen look at web pages and photos. Plus, Internet access is available anywhere there is cell phone coverage, or when the Foleo is within range of a Wi-Fi hotspot.(1) With Foleo's instant on/off capability, light and small size, and 5-hour battery life, Palm expects the mobile companion to establish a new category of personal-computing products.

MotionApps' mDayscape is a Personal Information Manager developed natively and exclusively for the Foleo mobile companion. The application is simple and easy to use with Foleo's rich user interface. mDayscape includes contacts, calendar and tasks, three powerful applications tightly integrated with each other, the Palm Foleo and the Treo smartphone.

"Bringing a contacts, calendar and tasks application to the Foleo further increases usability of the Treo and enhances the user experience in a continued shift away from the desktop and toward a smartphone as a center of computing," said Voja Lalich, chief executive officer of MotionApps. "All of us at MotionApps are very excited to announce the launch of mDayscape on Palm's first mobile companion product."

By building the Palm Foleo on an open Linux-based platform and publishing all the tools people might need, Palm hopes to establish a vibrant developer community to create new applications that extend the mobile companion's built-in capabilities. MotionApps demonstrates the ease with which exciting technology and applications can be ported to the Palm Foleo mobile companion.

"Using MotionApps' Quick Add feature, a user can add a new calendar event in seconds, and the event will be mirrored automatically on the user's smartphone. All this is done with the comfort, efficiency and convenience of the full-size keyboard and wide screen on Foleo," said Mark Bercow, senior vice president of business development for Palm, Inc.

I don't get it, is this going to be included with the Foleo, or is this going to be something you can purchase?

Not sure, it does not say... Palm might buy the app and include it. I bet that it will be a 3rd party purchase for $29.99...

Nice going, but I have the feeling that users will nog appreciate it that standard PIM apps are not bundled with the Foleo already.... Basic PIM's is as essential as E-mail and Webbrowsing.

But hey, Palm's Zen-motto is: "You don't need it, anyways".

It looks like it will be an add on...

Even more to come - mDayscape will be available the same day that Palm Foleo hits the stores. And by Q4/2007 MotionApps will release additional software modules for Foleo PIM that will extend usefulness of mDayscape and boost your productivity even more.
