Now that Global Source, the parent company of ClieSource, has started selling apps (EruWare's CF driver and some more coming soon), we sould like to ask for suggestions from everyone with regards to how you want the site to function.
Since ClieSource have been supporting developers 100% since day 1, we are aiming to make the store for them by charging minimal processing fees, and sending checks on time.
The app store is now being worked on and the interface will change to show more information on the product, as well as to categorize them properly.
We'd like to get suggestions, especially to avoid pitfalls that PalmGear and Handango experienced.
I do tend to like the way that PalmGear Runs. Everyone states they have a great search engine, and I have to agree. Nice to pull up a product, and scroll down to the bottom to view other lists of products by the same developer.
I'm such a small developer.. I am almost non-existant compared to most.
I'd like to see 'less' commission or whatever you want to call it going into the web-site's pocket. I think... there should be discounts given .... if you have a web-site... and advertise for your listing site.
If I have my own personal site... where I can list my software .. and link to your site .... that is one thing..... but to advertise.. whether it be via some banners ... or whatnot for your website should give us some discount on what the website keeps for their own pocket. If this global-source website would state it will take 20% commission per sale for providing the fulfillment software used for purchases .... but we will give back up to 5% based on advertising for Global-Source .... that would be an incentive. I'd have no problem at all putting ads on my web-pages for this. Your site gets free external advertising .... and I get a little reduction in what you would get in pocket.
I'm not saying this is the only way to help out developers .. but it would a lot of the beginning developers (like myself) who may only sell 10-20 items a month... and not hundreds or thousands.
Those businesses who have their own professional sites and do not wish to advertise for your site will still receive the same great service as all should get .... they just end up paying you a smidgeon more per purchase.
I'm sure I'll come up with a lot more .... but this is my first suggestion.
