| VZ90 and accented characters? I just got my first VZ90! Wooohooo! What a nice screen! And what a brick. Size is one thing, but gee it's heavy stuff!
BUT:
I tried to restore the data I had on my th55, and stumbled onto many problems related to accented characters. (I am a french speaking person, so I use those éèàçùçÇç frequently)
1) all my contacts and memo showed strange characters instead of accented letters. I could fix it, but only by using Fonts4OS5.
2) Grafitti won't let me enter accented letters. I even tried with tealscript and still can't. This is a BIG problem for me, still unsolved.
3) Data gets corrupted on my MS stick, and I suspect it has to do with filenames containing those d*mned accents... This is also a very big pain, especially because of many mp3 song titles I already have which contain accents.
So, if anyone succeeded in overcoming those problems, I'd be glad to hear from you !

| Hello, i am french too, and even worse than you because i use a mackintosh !!!
1/ I don't use font 4 os 5 but font smoother
2/ I think it's not possible to make the accents with graffiti. I use MiniKBD (with the Portrait patch, it doesn't work without) and so i can enter text quickly, with accents !
3/ You should remove ALL of your accents in files titles otherwise, some files (even the one without accents) will not be visible for your VZ90.
Anyway, welcome to the wonderfull and strange world of VZ90 !!!
Feel free to ask for more details ! |

| Ah, i forgot to tell you that you can have accentued french characters using MiniKBD and Fontsmoother fonts. But these characters will only be ok on your VZ. If you copy your text files on the card and then open it on a computer, you will have wrong characters instead of accentuated ones.
Fortunately, I noticed that if i make Memos (I use PS memo, but it should be the same with the original memo), when i synchronise it with my mac USING MARK-SPACE Missing sync, it automatically keeps the right charcters. It works only if there is no accentuated character in the memo's title (the first line in fact). And it works only as long you don't edit the memo ON THE COMPUTER. If you edit this memo on the mac, at the next sync, you will have ????? instead of accentuated characters. But you can edit these memos anytime you want directly on the VZ without problem.
Finally ... there are so many tricks to use better the VZ !!! |
