MD_Brite Everloving Tech Girl Join Date: Feb 2006 Location: Winston-Salem Posts: 142	Need A New Camera, Any Ideas? Yet again, I am on the hunt for another digital camera. I love photography, something I got hooked on in my youth, and now being 30ish I love the fact you can do everthing on the PC. I have been using my Pentax Optio 60 for the past 2 years, but I need something with a longer zoom and faster focusing, I do a lot of family events doing portraits and candids but nothing like nature shots where I need one of the superzooms (10-12X), and from what I have seen they are too clunky and not too pocketable, not a good idea when you're in a wheelchair. I also need something to use SD cards to work with my T\|C.I have had my eye on some of the slim Samsung cameras like the NV11 with the face recongition, has anyone had any experience with them. Also if anyone has any other ideas that would help, let me know.

Consider a camera with interchangeable lenses....Also consider cameras that steady the shots. However maybe some money should also be devoted to a larger hard drive to store your photos....

Not really, just a serious photo nut, lol. I'm really looking for something pocetable but with a better zoom than 3X, I would like at least 5X or better. As or HD space, I have a 250GB on my PC that I only have 100GB taken up, so I don't think that's an issue.

(You can pick them up for as little at CAN$220 these days - 5MP with a 10X zoom.) The newer models are 6MP and have a 10X zoom with image stabilization. Check the links below and see what you think. Check out the new range of Canon compact cameras. We use them at work (site inspections) and they are great. Tough and durable while producing excellent pictures. They're not the cheapest but I think they are worth it if you plan on using it a lot or keep it for a long time.

I know a great lens is what makes a great picture as with the NV7, but I'm also interested in the face recongition feature of the NV11, and also is there a real diffrence between 7 and 10 megapixels? I'd appreciate any advice in this area, thanks.

Very true, I did not mean to come off as anything else. I'm not a pro, but someone who's had a love for photography for the past 20 some odd years. I'm close to a decision, just not sure which camera would best suit me. While I'm on a similar topic, I have seen the .raw format in a lot of the newer higher-end cameras, what can it really do for the average to semi-pro photograher?

andwewillbether Just Plain Amazing Join Date: Apr 2006 Posts: 27	.raw allows you to set the white balance and other adjustments that are usually automatically done by the camera later. So if that's something you'd be interested in it would be worth it hands down. I didn't mean my previous comment as any kind of attack, it's just when looking at specs one can forget. Anything around 6-8mp and up it is damn hard to see any difference if they are taken by the same kind of camera. When you invest in memorysticks it is a major decision for Sony Products. In February 08 this model came out around $200 and now it has dropped over $50. In addition memorysticks have dropped in price also. A 4gb MS (mark 2) costs around $30. Why pay extra for a 8 Megapixel camera when you can get a cheaper 7 megapixel? The main draw was a Macro ability to photograph stuff a foot away. My other Sony a DSC-P10 has only 5 megapixels and 3x zoom, the new one has 4x zoom. Sony has a big lead in Movie Cameras. Most of the movie and television cameras are Sony Cameras used by the industry. Hopefully the software for video making is reflected upon Cybershot..... BTW most of the videos that I make can easily convert to movies that can be viewed on either my TH-55 or PSP.... __________________ Th-55 U, T/X, TG-50, Handspring Deluxe (3) and PSP user.
