| Public beta of PlayerControlDA Hi,
I've published the 1st beta version of my PlayerControlDA: a DA which allows to control PocketTunes (AeroPlayer, mOcean follows). It has more features than the PTunes console, you can adjust the position etc. It only works when PTunes is running already in the background. Please test and report back. I guess, I will make it a cheap shareware (5$) later with a full functional demo which just popups a "unregistered"-window when launched.
Get it from here: http://www.metaviewsoft.de/PlayerControlDA.prc
Regards
Henk

| got it and installed. 2 problems I noticed right off. - The fast forward (>>) button seems to rewind. But the rewind wors.
- If the DIA is up the DA pops up initially under the DIA, partially, then repositions itself

| Strange link? Means what? Maybe you need to right-click and select "save target".
cyberdude: It isn't fast forward, it is "next" song from your current playlist. Can't test it at the moment if it does it correctly.

Oh. It works to go to next song. But another problem popped up. The Da doesn't stay active very long. Instead of waiting for me to tap close or home to dismiss it, it dismisses itself after a few seconds. If I don't have my stylus out and ready before I activate it, it disappears before I can do anything. |

Just my preference, but you already put a close button there and I would prefer to control when it disappears.
BTW, this DA is far superior to the original ptunesDA. I like the ability to go back and forth in the playlist and in the song. Plus controlling the volume is a must. Nice DA! |

| Sweet Henk!! Thanks so much! I'm downloading now and will try it out today!
Edit: Just tried this out and it AWESOME!! I really, really like that it disappears on it's own (sorry CD - perhaps a timeout control like in your new ShowBattery would be nice?) and the position control is just what is we've needed.
I just have 2 requests... if possible - could we have 5way control for next, volume up/down and reverse - like the stock pop-up does? Also could it bring up PT if it's not already active like both the stock pop-up and the first PT DA do?

| WOOOOO HOOOOO! Thank you! This is fantastic. It's what I've been looking for. I'll will gladly pay for this app in its final version.
I just spent about 2 hours testing and looking for any possible issues. I'll pass them along.
1. If my DIA was down before I launched your DA: When your DA closes it leaves behind remnants of its window and my DIA stays up. If I tap anywhere on the screen the DIA drops and, depending on the app, the remnants go away on their own or I have to manually change things on the screen to force a repaint. An exception is if I launch your DA while in Palm's default launcher and when I close your DA, the icons in the 320x320 section are obscured by all white. Any icons that fall below in the DIA area (when the DIA is down) show through, some in full, some cut off along the line where the DIA ends and the 320x320 area begins. TomTom also acts a little wierd, but I'm sure it's all caused by the same thing.
I have a problem when launching your DA over Palm's calendar app in any calendar view that has the DIA down. It's identical to what Alex fixed with Accessorizer. This is a recurring problem with Palm's built-in apps that support hires+. Maybe you could look into it.
2. If my DIA was up before I launched your DA: When I close your DA, there are no remnant problems. But the DIA icon on my status bar stays pointed down and grayed out and is unresponsive to a tap except that is turns from gray to white after that first tap. Same goes for when that first tap is anywhere else on the screen: the DIA icon turns to white. Afterward the icon is responsive as normal.
May I second the feature requests?
1: Implement 5-way control within your DA's window. I only use my stylus 1/2 of the time I use my device, and never while listening while driving and using GPS.
2: It helps me tremendously to hear pieces of audio as I scan forward/backward. Could you make that happen while in your DA?
3. I second cyberdude's original observation. I agree there are times when it's helpful the DA automatically dismisses itself. But knowing how I work and study, or if I'm driving and can't look down, there will be time I will want your DA to remain open until I'm confident I'm really done with it, where I'd prefer to close it manually. To be honest, it's simply timing out too soon for me. Can you at least make it optional somehow, if not because we all work a little differently?

| PCQ: I will add some options: disappear timeout, which player to use, a button to start the player if not done already and probably some things more. I have no clue, why there isn't 5-way control per default...

Funny that you can write a DA in a few days, and Pocket Tunes can't do this with their default pop-up in 2+ years. And besides that, other players have been doing this for awhile as well, DIO Player and AreoPlayer. The Areo Player pop-up has pretty much the same functionality as your DA. |

| Is it possible to add a boomark option for streaming radio? I very rarely play mp3s anymore when I can just listen hundreds of free radio stations |

| Not to bag on Henk or anything but this (The DA itself) may not be that hard to do...
Normsoft have an API publically availiable here: http://www.pocket-tunes.com/developer/
IMHO just make a DA using the chunks of that API...
Again, not to bag on Henk (you actually did it after all!)... Just an FYI...

| Maybe this is just me, but whenever I do the following, my TX freezes and requires a pin reset. - start pTunes 4.x (from either LauncherX or the default launcher)
- choose a playlist and make sure it is going
- return to my launcher (LX)
- start the default Launcher (by tapping the Applications item)
- use my hard button to launch metada
- launch playercontrolDA
- the device freezes
Note that this may also have something to do with the fact that whenever I leave ptunes the tune stops playing. when I press a button it plays for a second again and stops as soons as I stop pressing the button. When I launch the DA it plays a little bit again.
If I don't do anything the DA dismisses itself and the device resets. |
