I'm not reall sure which the best looking PDA is... I don't think the UX50 is the best looking, I think the UX40 looked better... (no WiFi though...)

The UX40 is darker, it looks more like the Powerbooks/MacBook Pros.

This is the difference...

I have always liked the UX50's lighter look because it doesn't look as pasty. But the keyboard of the UX40 has always appealed to me a little more. They both look great. The UX50 feels less painted though.

BTW I am selling those AS-IS. If anyone's interested. This is for parts only.

UX40 is a darker gray then UX50, its not as attractive. The UX50 has that light magnesium coat on it.

well i cant agree more, pretty much the only reason i bought it. it looked so cool i had to have it, ive never had a palm or pocket pc before so i was surprised at how versatile it is

i have been tempted to buy a sharp with the similar form factor mainly due to its greater functionality, but that thing really is ugly compared to the ux, i dont think i could live with that

I prefer the darker look of UX40.

There was no choice for european people, UX50 or nothing !
UX40 had no wifi and no special characters for european alphabets. (éàè etc ...)

I have a euro-UX50, and it is nice to be able to type in those special letters, especially with names...

I have a few pda's ... a TG50, a Z22 (was a gift), a NX73 (was my main unit), a HX4705 (flashed to run linux) and my main unit the UX40. I once owned a zaurus and was not impressed with the options given the linux pda market, three years later and my flashed HX4705 has the same meager offerings (its a I can do it thing). The TG50 was a steal at 20 or so bucks so I grabbed it, the keyboard and bluetooth intrigued me in its form factor (not a bad pda ... light and intuitive). I bought the NX73 to be my main unit, and for the most part I liked it. The weight and size of the unit began to become an issue, and I found I was constantly trying to run it in landscape like my HX so I figured I would give the UX a shot. Haven't looked back since, its a very versatile unit, easily competitive with present pda offerings. If one keeps in mind power management while using it (the only let down for me). The screen is nice and usable (not HX4705 quality), the keyboard is wonderful (no more carrying the extra keyboard), bluetooth works as expected, on demand video recording and stills is a plus for those moments that come while working (I use mine do document various things) and the built in DSP makes it an awesome mp3 & video player. Video playback is better than any palm I have used or owned, its on par with the HX4705. I like the large heap it has too, higher than most palms.

Anyhows ... I like my UX40.

Hi all,
first let me say, that i never had the intention to buy the UX50 (already had the TH and others), but i had seen a review and was impressed by the style and formfactor, nevertheless the prices on Ebay where too high.
Then in October'05 i have seen one at the Bay for 100 Euro and this was a fantastice price, because at that time you normally had to pay around 250 in auctions !
So, i grabbed it and thougt myself, "Hey, even if wouldn't like it, i could sell it for at least the double of what i paid, hehe"

As you can agree, seeing a device on pictures and holding it in ya hand are simply two different worlds, so when i first hold the UX in my hands i was really impressed by its sleek elegant Style !
What i also really like especially at this device is the clamshell design, cause so the screen is always protected, when its closed and i never saw another device that have such a good non-scratching case !

But, but, but there was one rising, bad shadow that lowered the joy and i think, you all know about it

Nevertheless i kept it, cause for me its simply the PDA with the biggest Charme and Coolness !
(...and sometimes i take it out just to play around a bit)
