| Hmm... I wonder what would happen if you coupled the WiFi antenna to one of the available lines (audio, mic, analog gnd, etc.)? Of course, being higher frequency, you'd probably need a diode somewhere, or break the trace (perma-mod) to the previous function. You could probably re-use the external mic pin for something like this, and possibly even use a modified hotsync cable as your antenna.

To Fluxorz
After I opened my Tx, I think I found a little thin green steel paper that could be the WIFI antenna for the TX(see the pix). Is this the antenna for the WiFi? I attached a little wire string to the steel and it seems it increased the range of my wifi but not sure
I have attached the pix and varify.
Thanks

| Well Anyone try some mod???
I was thinking doing some sort of "plate" to the external part of the hard case and try to see if can put any kind of screw or contact.
What about swr ratio??? Can this burn the WiFi chip or transistors???
For thos who dont know swr ratios, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_wave_ratio

| I have connected (attached) about 6cm(about 2 inches) wire to WIFI antenna. It seems that it increased the reception but not sure. Any mod out there to increase the reception of the WIFI?
Thanks |

| I tried adding 8 inches and then 16 inches of wire to the wifi ant. and neither helped at all. |

| to raspabalsa: i luv starcraft too! yay, archons! do u know the cheats?
bak on trak: i cant get any pics up for a while, my cam is busted. and yes, ginkang1, that is the wifi antenna, or at least it's the one i hooked my antenna onto and it increased my signal by about 4x. course, my antenna was (fcc - don't listen!) about 3 meters long at the time, now about 6 meters long, cuz i use it in conjunction with my outmoded dell latitude cpi 366st laptop (not that i'm complaining, i love having any laptop! i plan on getting the VIA nanobook in feb. of '08) anyway, i owe dmitry an apology: sorry i was so terse with the whole "heck with the fcc" thing, i didn't realize who you were. until just a while ago, i had no idea you were one of the best known palm os programmers online! so, sorry for my brash comments. also, while on the subject of palm os internets stuff, please check my thread called "blazer redraws almost constantly...help!" |

| So all you did was solder some wire onto the the copper tip of the Wifi antennae and it increased your reception? Gregte, did you try this on the right connector? |

| O.o?
Im debating wether I should do this, my wifi level is in the red when Im in my room, I might just use a small wire to connect the wifi antena to the metal peice that holds the leather cover to the palm.
I recently took a knife and butchered the leather cover, thats when I found out that the plastic slide-n peice had a metal core. Ive been using the slide-n piece as a way to attach a wristband to the palm.
Do you think that hooking up the wifi antena to this metal peice would increase its range significantly?
The metal strip in the slide-in peice is roughly 4 inches long, 1/8 inch wide and 1/32 inch thick.

| Also, not to hijack the thread, but does better reception also mean a better connection too? In places that you would get a yellow or red level are you now getting green level? or did this mod just allow you to detect APs in a farther distance.
Oh, so you're not just using a soldered wire as a boost for your antennae? I just tried it with a piece of wire with little to no results. After reading up on wifi antennae mods then you must of had quite a mod piece to use this with.

| wouldnt different types of wire, effect the reception?
I would think that the smaller the guage, and the longer the length, would increase the reception.
