| CleverParrot: A Palm resources site dedicated to graphics/sounds and special effects. Hello guys,
Just a quick note to let you know about my new web site www.cleverparrot.com which is dedicated to advanced Palm™ OS applications development like graphics, sounds and special effects.
On the site, You will find: - ARM/PNO's codes (with documentation)
- Tutorials/examples applications
- HB++ applications and examples
- PC tools dedicated to HB++ projects
- Generic PC tools helpful for Palm development
- Showcases of Palm applications using MY PNO's codes
- Useful links related to applications development
Even so the site is more oriented toward the HB++ community (HB++ is a Palm RAD developement tool), I am hoping that all Palm developers would find it useful. My goal is to make this site a place where you can learn more about advanced topics like PNO's (ARMlets), 3D rendering or specials effects on Palm devices.
A fast Armlet-based effect applied to a regular Palm application can really make it stand out from the crowd. See some examples here: PNOs/ARMlets Preview
Of course I absolutely welcome your suggestions/comments about the site when you get a chance to check it out!
Thanks guys,
Eric.

| I had a brief look at your site and some of your sample / demo apps. I am really impressed. Will you be taking on commissioned work? Do you have any plans to release commercial applications especially in the music / multimedia field? |

| Welcome to 1src, and nice 1st post, I'm impressed
I know the aim of your website is for the advanced coder, but I've been tinkering around in Hb++, simple hello apps & such, (no previous programming experience). Any tips on where to begin to build a solid VB foundation? |

Hello Ashley,
Sorry for this long time, I haven't receive any notification of topic answer (perhaps not checked in my profil, I'll see that).
Yes, I planed to release commercial applications: at this time Games & ScreenSavers (two are cooking, available very soon: the first is a 3D Earth clock, rotating in real time, with sun light - you can choose the sun position and the light factor - the second is a cool plasma effect, also in real time, and you can create your own color palette and set a lot parameters to have geometric, bubles, oil, etc... effects.
Bye,
Eric

Hello DoctorBri,
Sorry for this long time, I haven't receive any notification of topic answer (perhaps not checked in my profil, I'll see that).
Thank you, it's a real pleasure to be at 1src.com
Well, that's right, but you can find in HB++ apps section some "not to hard" app examples helping you about some stuff.
See also the tips section.
The website content isn't finished, I've added another tip (how to easily embed a small font with a HB++ class) and a new tool to view/edit HB++ bitmap.
New free PNOs are coming soon, all the PNO video should be available in about 3 or 4 weeks.
Anyway, feel free to contact me if you encounter problems You know, finally, we are always beginers...
About the VB foundations, I really don't understand what you mean/need
HB++ is a "basic" similar syntax, but not VB language.
Did you take a look at HB++ home page? There are a lot of samples and a way to start your first project.
Bye,
Eric |

Oops, thought Visual Basic was synonymous with Basic. Guess one's built upon the other, huh. |

Well, in fact no matter who started with this kind of syntax/IDE.
If you remember well, this is Borland Enterprise that started a new generation of IDE with visual conception, I talk about DELPHI 1.0, that succeded to TURBO PASCAL 7.0 (using at this time OOP in DOS environement).
After that, a lot new visual IDE appeared... VC++, VB, etc...
YES, HB++ is a "VB" like language, dedicated to Palm OS development, using powerfull OOP structure. You can visually define the look of your app (forms, buttons, etc...) and change their properties with the Object Property Editor.
Regards,
Eric. |

| Eric, thanks for replying. Are you open to developing sound or music applications? Your sample code seems to show you have quite a lot of skill in that area. |

Yes, of course! As I'm musician too, I love play and create music.
I still developed music/tools apps for my personal use (I've got a very cool Music Tool Set that embed a high accuracy metronome, chords composer/player, Guitar tuner, etc...).
I've got a lot of musics, as I started to record and store them since 1998 (all my previous musics before 1998 are on paper or simply... lost).
I've written also PNO to play music in background and created music for game developers.
But, if you read the sub-section "Music" of the "About Us" section from my website, music is part of my life (since I'm nine, starting with my brother). So I play yet guitar with friends and give some music lessons.
Waiting news from you,
I hope that all developers (and musician too ) have a nice day, here the sun shines.
Best regards,
Eric. |

|
I never try Orbforms Designer but I took a look at features.
What I see is: Quote: |
Much of the API exposed by the OrbC runtime is in the form of objects. For example, all the user interface elements (e.g. buttons, forms) are objects with methods (such as domodal(), and load()) and properties (such as x, y, visible).
|
The language seems not to be really OOP. Only controls seems to be managed as objects. I didn't see in the documentation anything about creating your own class, only structures.
Browsing the forum, it seems harder to "play" with bitmaps than with HB++.
But I'm not an Orbforms Designer user, and I think it will be better to ask this question to the HB++ forum.
The last point is perhaps that Orbforms Designer uses "C" language, and HB++ a "VB like" syntax. This point is also a developer's preference.
I can talk more about HB++. Take a look at their overview page.
Best regards,
Eric. |

| Hello guys,
Some of you reported me about JAVA SCRIPT security (you always have to enable JS) as my menus were written in JS.
So I decided to move to PHP, job is done!
I've kept only the Java Script where I couldn't do by another way (As in the "All PNOs in action" section... I've to populate the Selector list, etc...
Now, you can always see the menus as they don't use anymore JS.
So now, main page is "index.php".
Thanks
Eric. |
