Smile Me new MOUSE and something else.

I bought a Logitech V400. It has 2 lasers for extra accuracy. It runs on only one battery, lasts way longer than my past notebook mouse and when you eject the wifi-USB thingy, the power turns on and of course inserting it powers the mouse down.

I got the black one;
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/p...CONTENTID=10915

And I ordered this beast;
http://www.3dconnexion.com/products/3a1.php

What I really don't understand, is that this thing has support from OS X natively, so it doesn't need drivers. Maya also has all the built in MEL scripts to take advantage of it, so why did they pull off all reference to OS X support... I still have PDFs which state OS X compatibility and had spoken to their software engineers a few years back and they stated its drivers were in development. They target a very small niche of users with this device and the Mac is a large chunk of that market. To top it off, Logitech which recently bought them, just released a NuLooq which is an obvious spin off of the SpaceTraveler and it only works on the Mac at this time; Go figure. But I'm happy I found a post about some guy that simply installed the Linux MEL scripts and it worked.

Blah..

Very useful if you're into any of these 120+ applications.

Being a mere mortal, I'm happy with a Mighty Mouse.

I can only use it for one app right now, but it will be soo worth it, since it has the potential to increase productivity and relieve wrist strain.

It's a 6 dimensional 3D controller DG, or basically a 3D mouse. It will allow me to pan, zoom and rotate arond my models in Maya with just my left hand. Currently, I have to hold down a key, while pressing a combination of buttons on my mouse to navigate. With this device, my mouse, or Wacom stylus will be just for editing, while my left hand is for navigation. When these things first game out, they were over $600 starting.

Now if only this thing worked in Warcfraft 3, I would be set.

Yes, it's ok.

I'll post a picture of my productivity increase in a few days. Not sure how that's possible, but I'll figure it out.

I was originally going to get the SB5000 and had actually called around to buy one about 1.5 years ago. At that time, their site still stated OS X support, but when I called, everyone stated Mac support was not yet available. I was told that by summer(2005), by one of their sofware engineers, that OS X drivers would be available for download. So I decided to wait, but then the drivers never came, and Mac support was erased from their site.

It was only chance that I found out that OS X has built-in support and that Maya 6+ supports these devices via MEL. I was actually checking to see if I could use my joystick in Maya, or even another mouse. I found the MEL script for detecting and setting up supported devices. Then from there, I did a tighter search on Google, which led me to the post about the guy using the Linux MEL scripts to run his SB5000.

I would still like ot get a SB5000, but settled for the ST right now, because I wanted the portability, and on the downside that I can't get this working, then I've only spent $190 after tax.

Check out the supported systems in these old PDFs;
http://www.atavisticarts.com/public/spaceball.pdf
http://www.atavisticarts.com/public/spacetraveler.pdf

I would love to use this thing in Warcraft 3. It would be perfect for panning and selecting quick hot-keys.

If you wanted to send me any extra 3D input devices, that none of your other work peeps were interested in using, I would gladly take, take and take some more.
