Great podcast to bring in the New Year, Alan!

Now for some comments:
SDHC: I don't think I'm in an exploratory mood right now so I won't try this out with my 680 yet. I survive with a 16MB card. Really.

Accessories: I've been using the Brando Screen Protectors since my Clie N-series days. Basically, I love its pen on paper feel. I smiled at the part about placing a screen protector properly... Like Alan, it would take me quite some time to perfectly put in a screen protector. My record is 1 hour 30 minutes on a TH55 (I later conceded that I have a dusty room).

As for a cases, I have two favorites: Krusell (I take out the clip mount, and file down the zipper handle) and Cellet (where a Treo is holstered screen side in).

Happy New Year everyone! Thanks for continually supporting 1SRC!

Wow! You've got me beat by a good 45 minutes or so. And those are some good suggestions for the cases also. For what it's worth, I alway keep my screen turned in side.

I have found that NVbackUp is more reliable then Resco Backup. Every 8 or so backups using Resco, my Palm (Treo 650) would crash. I have not had any problems with NVBackup.

Uh ? Over an hour to apply a screen protector ?
I ordered a Brando protector with my 680 and it took exactly 1 minute to apply (+ 1 minute to open the package and read the instructions first )

Really? That's weird. I run daily backups with Resco Backup 1.40.7 and I'm good. Maybe it's just a difference between the 650 and the 700p? The important thing is that you have a solution that works for you.

thanks for a very informative podcast. In addition to the software you mentioned, I use Resco Explorer which has a good backup utility. Also, I use Cardreader.prc which now has a Bluetooth option...

Does anyone know which 4gb SD cards work with the Palm TX?

Thanks...

'

I use Resco Explorer also. Jan from Resco tells me that they [Resco] have reused some of the code from Backup in Explorer. So, if you are looking to essentially double your money, Resco Explorer might be a really good solution for you.

I haven't used CardReader.prc, although the name sounds familiar. Is that part of MarkSpace The MissingSync for the Mac? I'll Google it later.

I haven't tried any 4GB cards on my TX or Treo 700p yet. I'm having a hard enough time filling up my 2GB card.

Card Reader

here is the link for card reader:
http://www.mobile-stream.com/cardreader.html

The reason I am interested in a 4GB SD card is that I just discovered the concept of portable applications (see portableapps.com) and would like to use more space on my card for this concept. I have already loaded portable versions of Firefox (with all my desktop bookmarks) and OpenOffice. With Card Reader I can run these apps on any computer! They also work on USB flash drives.

Hmmm...that sounds cool. Maybe I'll have to get a 4GB card. My wife will be thrilled to hear that. LOL

Happy New Year everyone.

Fom what I have read, the TX will support 4GB SD cards and that some brands are better than others. Palm does not list 4GB SD cards as compatible on their website because this size is outside the official specifications laid out by the SD Card Association.

At the Palm Treo 680 Cingular launch webinar that I attended, Palm had indicated that they were testing 4GB cards internally, but were unable to provide a date as to when Palm might publish a compatibility list of what cards work with Palm handhelds.

Great Podcast!
Card Reader is an awesome software for 2 reasons:
1) it can work in the background
2) the speed is much higher than in card export.

I also believe that the 2 free methods for accessing the SD card as a USB drive should have been mentioned: filespc2pda (which is a plugin for TotalCommander ) and DriveMode from T5 (which works flawlessly on the TX btw.)

Havent used any Backup software so I cannot say anything coherent on that topic

Looking forward for next weeks podcast

There is also Palm File Browser, which unfortunately only works on Windows platform and requires a desktop component to be installed (which limits the portability of the solution to some extent)
