jaPalmMade

New application that allows you to quickly tell when your device was made instead of calculate it for yourself. While many may say its easy to do. Others with hundreds if not thousands of devices may find it useful... cough Alan . It may also be useful when looking to purchase a new Palm or check out when the demo model was made. I really made it because of last night's chat and how I couldn't find the Brighthand algorithm and I hadn't programmed for a very long time. If there are any issues, let me know.

It will tell when your Palm/PalmOne branded device was created. I think this system works for Handspring so I included that brand as well but it may not. Only these three brands will or will not work.

Enjoy!

Based on algorithm here... http://forum.brighthand.com/showthread.php?t=21626

Worked fine on my TX, but the TE came back with 'Error 5: Invalid Parameter'. I brought the TE new ~3 years ago.

Interesting, my TE was manufactured less than a month before my receiving it. The TX on the other hand had been sitting on a shelf for 3+ months before I bought it. Oh well.

JA, thanks for the momentary diversion.

I think that the reason is that the TE (if I remember correctly) doesn´t show the serial number in the Info screen, and probably jaPalmMade reads that. No? :-)

Regards,

Yep Greek, you got it. I will include something to allow you to enter it manually.

No. Let me check it out.

Edit: Mine does it automatically. But I will include an input section so you can input your code if its not shown on your device's info section. Also, the day of the week is said as well. It is said that Monday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday are the bad days to get your devices according to Saturday's chat due to people don't really want to work on those days. But this is based on assumption not proven fact. Although many devices with defects are said to have shown up on these days of the week.

I updated it now. It will ask for a serial number if not is present in your device. You can also enter a serial on a device that already has one to see when the device was created. The purpose of this is to find out when devices were made but from just one device.

Enjoy. The updated file can be obtained from my first post . Thanks guys.

Works with the following nits:

If I try to enter a serial # on the TX an input box pops up with a flashing cursor (focus) and if I tap the 3 characters they show up on the input form but when I tap 'OK' a "please enter the 3 ..." alert pops up. If I tap on the input field prior to entering the 3 characters everything is fine.

Oh yea, on the TX there's a '|' character in the upper right corner of the input form prior to tapping for focus. So even though there's a flashing cursor there's no focus prior to tapping. I observed this with fieldfix on and off.

On the TE there's no focus until I tap on the input form. But no flashing cursor either or symbol in upper right corner.

Anyway, it works just thought you might like to know?

Thanks for the app and listening to me whine.

Same here. Although FixField on my unit directs attention to the input field without my having to tap there. Entering the characters 6,7, and 8 on my unit results in the alert telling me to enter those characters. Checking the option to enter the whole serial number and then entering it works fine. Or at least doesn't result in an error message or a change in the automatically calculated date.

No big deal on the TX, since the date is automatically displayed when the application is started.

Wow. Thanks for noticing. Trust me you helped greatly. I didn't realize all this

Opps. I disabled FixField and found that the focus does shift to the input box automatically without it. You can write in the characters without having to tap in the input field first. The | stroke that pokeypda reports is the symbol for automatic capitalization. It is anchored by a dot at the bottom of the upstroke.

Yep, | with a dot.

FerdFerd:

How are you disabling FixField?? I tried turning it off and soft reset, no luck? Are you using FF v1?
