| nx73v won't turn on My clie worked fine this morning. The alarm woke me up just as it always does, but then by the time I got to work, it was making a very faint clicking noise. No matter what button I pushed, nothing would make the clicking stop, or turn the unit on. I tried all the various types of resets, the hold switch is obviously not engaged, since the 73 uses a slider, so I then tried to open the battery door and pulled out and reinserted the battery cable. Nothing worked. My clie will not turn on. I placed it on the charger until the little orange light went out, then tried all the various things again. Nothing. I tried doing resets while the clie was on the charger too.
Does anyone have any idea wtf happened? I think the clicking may have started when my next alarm, announcing the time I have to be in to work, went off. Any suggestions as to how I can fix it other than try to return it? (I got it off ebay in January, so there's no chance of that). And I know better than to try to get any help from $ony. Thanks to anyone who can help. |

| Take it apart, spray some switch cleaner where possible and make sure the internal switch is not stuck in the 'Hold' position. Good luck!

| thanks wytnucls, i don't think it's stuck in the hold position though, since when you try push a button when the hold switch is engaged, the green power light should flash 3 times. Now, it doesn't do anything. but I'm gonna get one of those 5 pointed screwdrivers off ebay anyway. I tried using a jeweler's screwdriver, but i can't get it to work, even though others have. i've never heard of switch cleaner though. what is it and where can i get it? any other potential problems i could look for inside when i open it?
does anyone know of any sites where i can see some photos of the internal parts of the clie, so i can get some idea of what's in there before i open it, also, it might help me put it back together.

| Something stuck between screen and frame. I think your NX73 problem might be some dirt got stuck between the screen and the outer casing / frame of the screen. Even more plausible if you are using a screen protector.
It sounds like the digitizer constantly registers a tap, hence the repeating clicking noise...

| thanks glaganie, but the clicking has stopped. i should have mentioned that when i removed the lead for the battery, it stopped, and when i plugged it back in, the clicking didn't start again. now nothing registers at all. no button presses, screen taps, slider pulls, nothing. currently, it's not making any noise at all.
the clicking wasn't the same type of noise as the sound the clie makes when you tap the screen either. it was more like a "fluttering." that's the first word i thought of when i heard it. very faint. i had to turn off the car radio and put my ear to the clie to hear it well. it sort of sounded like the sound the click wheel makes when you turn it (not the sound effect the clie makes, the software registering a click wheel turn, but the actual mechanism of the click wheel itself). and of course i wasn't turning the click wheel. any idea what it was? |
