Lost calendar entries on M515

I have lost all the calendar entries except anniversaries (repeats) on my Palm Desktop. No idea how and why these have gone and big problem is that my handheld (M515) is away at the Palm repair centre and will almost certainly come back wiped. It's almost as though I had purged the calendar entries, is there any way I can get the entries back?

Palm Desktop Software is Version 4.1.4
Handheld is M515 with Version 4.0 OS
PC is Sony Vaio PCV-V1 with Windows XP Home Version

I have just found that the lost datebook entries are in the palm Datebook folder in a file called 'datebookBAK' (size 998kb) This file is readable although a bit scrambled through notepad So question is now, how do I restore this back in to Palm Desktop?

Any thoughts? Please help me!

You can change the file extension of the BAK file to *.dat (located in the datebook folder inside your profile folder -e.i. hotsync name- and then run Palm desktop, if all goes well, you'll find your appointments back.
