| Jpilot is the best IMO. Looks and feels the closest to Palm Desktop on Win Machines. Does PIM hotsync, or full backup hotsync.

I use J-pilot. Which is a GUI interface with function simular to the Palm desktop.
pilot-link suite:
pilot-addresses pilot-clip pilot-dedupe pilot-foto pilot-archive pilot-datebook pilot-file pilot-schlep
which use the key application pilot-xfer.
Do it all using WIFI and port net: in j-pilot settings instead of /dev/pilot.
To install an application without doing a hotsync from a command line:
pilot-xfer -p net: -i downloaded.prc
There is also kpilot that integrates with KDE-PIM (Kontact) or Gnome-PIM (Evolution). Uses serial or USB device.
There are probably some others like gnome-pilot that I have not tried, as j-pilot does everything I need.

Thank you ever so much! I have scoured the web looking for exactly this information! As I cannot sync over USB (locks up the laptop) I needed another option. |

| I've tried several sync programs Jpilot worked the best in my experience, but my problem has always been getting my computer to recognize my PDA at all. However, I've simply given up trying to sync to my computer. I now move new programs to my LD via memory card and FileZ, I backup to the card with NVBackup, and I sync my calendar to Google Calendar with GooSync. |

| I use jpilot for notes, addresses, and calendar entries. I just copy paste into the jpilot application, then sync to the PDA. Who needs a keyboard when you have copy/paste?

| kontact/korganizer/kdepim/kitchensync/kpilot... whatever it's called... it's going through a transition period right now and won't sync my todo or calendar to my th55, but supposing they get it working again, this is my favorite. great integration with kde and korganizer, which you can also sync with your mobile phone and a host of other things people have written scripts for.
j-pilot is simple, but works well
gnome-pilot / evolution i have never gotten to work on any system with any pda i have ever owned and cannot evaluate it on anything other than poor hardware detection and support.
pilot-link. by far the simplest and most reliable way to sync. it is used as a backend for many of the applications listed above.
some other ones for linux i haven't tried... coldsync? if that is still around
some other options you might want to look into...
vmware-player to sync with clie organizer, requires some USB tweaking, i could never get it to work reliably on linux, though the same vm will detect and sync flawlessly on windows. Personally, if you can get this working, I think it is the best option. Here are some links that might help you...
to create an xp virtual machine for vmplayer: http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2005/10/...windows-xp.html
and to tweak it for linux usb troubles: http://www.digitalearth.com.au/2006...ware-on-ubuntu/
You could also try network sync on vmware-player, this would most probably work... actually, i think this is what I am going to do now.
also, you could use wine to install clie organizer on linux. i have never tried this, but i might give it a shot also. anyone know if this has been done?
hope all this info helps,

| follow up just a follow up, i got network sync to work on xp-vmware on ubuntu 6.10, but still no usb.
I AM able to successfully sync my th55 via USB to palm desktop/clie organizer on my system using windows xp on vmware on the following host -> 2.6.18-gentoo-r5 with vmware-player and vmware-workstation 5.5.3 build 34685
So far so good. I basically use the virtual xp for clie organizer and street finder c3. Video, music, ebook converting, etc I all do on linux and transfer to memory stick. |

| does anyone know where to find the KeyRing plugin in the latest jPilot version. In the docs it says that KeyRing is included in the installation but in the Preferences->Conduits section I can see only the PIM databases...

| I believe th e KeyRing plugin is there. I installed RedHat Fedora Core 6 and jpilot during a fresh install. I had already used jpilot to sync the palm to the desktop. I was not even aware of KeyRing, and it did not work for me as there was no "keys-gtkr" on the desktop in my ~/.jpilot directory. In the help in jpilot, it points you to http://gnukeyring.sourceforge.net/ which has a link to download the Palm application http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/...ng-1.2.3-en.zip which has 3 files to install on the palm:
DESLib.prc keyring-1.2.3-en.prc and MDLib.prc
I did that, then created an entry on the Palm, synced to desktop, then checked out the conduit on the desktop. Seems good to me so far.

| I have been playing a bit with it before I commit real data to it. A couple of caveats:
1-You can change the master password on the Palm (T|X in my case), but the change does not seem to get to the desktop.
2-Long complicated password for a master password seems to be quite secure, BUT a real pain to use if you have to keep entering it to get to/update your data.
3-Added records don't seem to get synced to the desktop.
Still testing it. There may be some more glitches. I really need to go RTFM.
