| DragonEdit: new Text/DOC/HTML editor, need T-series testing DragonEdit
DragonEdit release candidate 1 is finished. Al the features are in. It's working on most everyone's devices now, except for some T|X's and maybe some other T-series PDAs. I'd appreciate anyone's help in testing this on their device and telling me if they get an error and how they got it. If you get an error please give me a step by step process of what you did to get that error so that I can re-enact it and fix it. What is DragonEdit?
DragonEdit is a text editor and an HTML editor in one. Palm OS had not seen an editor this powerful, for web site editing OR just for plain old text. Some key text-editing features: Unlimited file size support, plain text or DOC files stored in RAM or on a memory card, advanced find/replace, open multiple documents at a time, FTP support
To download DragonEdit, follow this link: http://www.greendragonsoftware.com/DragonEdit.prc
(If you have a previous version of DragonEdit installed, delete it before installing this)
If you want to edit HTML, also download and install these databases: http://www.greendragonsoftware.com/HTMLTags.pdb http://www.greendragonsoftware.com/HTMLAttribs.pdb http://www.greendragonsoftware.com/JavaScript.pdb
If you have any problems/questions/praise/criticism/comments or whatever, please don't hesitate to post them in this thread, or send me an email: jehlke at student.umass.edu. I really appreciate any input, thanks!

| more than willing to help. I've already posted some screenshots of errors in your other thread. I assume t-series includes the TX.
I retried the same procedure with just using your tag insert interface. I didn't get the first error (something about the cursor), but I did get the same sharing violation error when I tried to save a test file. I'm saving to the root directory of the card. |

| Could you try deleting DragonEdit, reinstalling, and getting the error again? If you can, then please tell me step by step what you did starting with opening the application.
Some bugs are easy to spot and fix, but bugs like these are too hard to understand without a detailed process of how you got them. Too many variables come into play.
Thanks

Okay I deleted the app and the three files need for html editing (everything that was installed) using Uninstall Manager.
Then I did the following: - started dragonedit
- chose html
- tapped the insert button in the top lefthand corner of the screen
- chose tags in the insert menu
- scrolled down to html and tapped insert
- tapped the titlebar which read "untitled"
- tapped save as
- replaced untitled with "test" - I tried "test.htm" also
- tapped save
- got the error (#44)
- tapped done in the error box - see screenshot 1
- TX froze and needed to be reset - see screenshot 2

| Another bit of info on this problem.
If I create a new directory from within your app, then save the file in that directory - no problem at all! So maybe there is something with saving in the root directory of the card? |

| One more interesting tidbit.
I went back and opened the test file that I saved. When I saved it there was only html, head, title, and body tags in it with "test" title and "test" in the body. I opened a file that was completely blank. When I look at the files in Resco Explorer they have a size of 0 bytes. It doesn't seem to be actually saving anything but the name of the file. |

| What other software is on your device that may be interacting with files?
I think there is an application called PalmInternals that will tell you what applications are running from notifications. Could you try running this and telling me the results?
When I get home from work I'm going to try recreating the error you're getting but I think it may have something to do with other software on your device, or something about how your device is configured.

| Dude i've been trying to contact you since you first released this on the handheld basic forums, this is sweet.
You've done a great job i haven't got to use it much, and sadly my trial is over now, but it is way cool. Nice work.

| Veritech,
Thank you! It's only taken a year and a half to do too It's always motivating to hear things like that from users
Install the latest version and it will reset your trial. I will be giving new trial periods for each new DragonEdit release (like 1.0->1.1, 1.2, 1.5, 2.0, etc), and this includes some of the betas too.

| Sadly Bugs to report
On the first launch i get
"error 4 type mismatch"
followed by
"error 20 attempt to read beyond end of stream"
The app opens fine after that.
Then when i hit "insert" i get a "Error 10 subscript out of bounds"
which was followed by a soft reset shortly afterwards.
Tried it on my Clie TJ-35 and got a "Error 33" after selecting text or html mode after launch, followed by a system hang.
This version looks to more unstable than the last.
This has external keyboard support right?
I'm actually a Pro Web Developer, and i'm too cheap to a buy notebook so this is great. When you release it, i give you a testimonial if you want.

| I'm going to try killing two birds with one stone by putting better, more descriptive and helpful error reporting in. This will help things down the road with future problems, and it'll help today to figure out what's causing the errors you're getting.
I appreciate your offer for a testimonial, that would certainly be nice once I get DragonEdit released

| I have no clue why, but DragonEdit won't even run on my Palm TX. I open the program, click on text, and get this error message: "Error 66: Library not found.". Then, my Palm resets.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but it doesn't work for me. I did not install any previous version either. Is this a conflict with another program I have? |
