| Problems with Palm Desktop, hints needed Hi All.
I haven't posted anything for a couple of years as the UX50 has been working perfectly all this time (in my Mac with Missing Sync). I got hit today by Windows and Palm Desktop way of doing things and I'm pulling my hair.
Background: Everything works OK from the mac and the UX50 sides (the ux50 has no wifi, and I haven't fixed it because I've been lazy to open it and re-seat the Wifi card). Today I got the Via Michelin Mapsonic maps and the stupid thing comes with a Windows-only installer.
So I got the laptop at the office (W2K) and installed Palm Desktop on it. It all went OK and then I installed Via Michelin Mapsonic in it, and it all went downhill from there.
Mapsonic forces its programs into the hotsync installer and then asks you to hotsync twice. I tried hotsyncing and the first time it worked OK and the second time it got stuck in "Memo Pad" in the Palm and in "Installing files" in hotsync.
I tried several things and ended up giving up, I uninstalled everything and tried installing the Palm desktop again. And now I can't hotsync the palm desktop with the UX50 in Windows, as it also gets stuck in the same place.
It gets worse, as the first time I run palm desktop it asks for a username, which I give (Eduo UX50), and if it gets stuck I have to kill the application and the next time I try running it the user is shown as a profile (Eduo UX50 (Profile)) and I can't edit a profile's conduits. How can the Palm Desktop have profiles and users and internally consider them to be the same thing, but not allow a user to edit a profile (I tried creating a user and disabling all conduits, and it just ignores me, and I can't delete all users and profiles because the damn things later insists they already exist).
So, the question, after all the background: How can I delete EVERY trace of Palm Desktop from Windows 2K (I have version 4.1.4e, because Mapsonic doesn't work with Palm Desktop for Clie (which is 4.1.2, I think))? I want to delete everything! The uninstaller leaves the users there somewhere.
I want to install palm desktop from scratch and then try hotsyncing correctly before I attempt to reinstall mapsonic in it.
Also, should I be aware of something else I should be installing to make Palm Desktop work with the Clie UX50?
Thanks all, I know it's lengthy, but in my experience this saves a lot of back and forth questions.

| hello eduo,
first, uninstall palm desktop via add/remove programs in the control panel.
then goto the 'program files' folder and delete the folder name 'palm'.
d/l version 4.1.4 from palm site (not 4.1.4e since its only for extended pim). also d/l and extract the ux hotsync drivers from sonyclie.org.
install palm desktop that you d/l and try to sync. if it ask for driver then direct it to the ux driver you d/l earlier.
if it still stuck, right click on the hotsync icon in the taskbar, choose custom and change all cunduitsto do nothing, beside the installs records.
good luck.

| Golalmo: Thanks for the pointers. I got 4.1.4e because I couldn't easily select the version and was already getting fed up at the time.
The ux hotsync drivers are the ones that include SCSI in the package?
I have tried disabling the conduits, but the thing is that when hotsyncing it says it's syncing to a profile, and I can't edit the conduits for profiles, only users. The only user I have created doesn't have conduits enabled. |

| get pdt 4.1.4 from here
i dont understand what is sync to profile. when right click on hotsync manager, select custom and choose the username and change all cunduit to do nothing.
if no success, goto hoysync icon in the ux, select 'menu' -> 'cunduit setup' and unselect every cunduit. try to sync again.
and yep, the hotsync driver is the one with the scsi drivers include, though you need the 'hotsync' folder. if you was able to start the hotsync process, you probably wont need it.
if you do need it, get it from here

| Golalmo: It's hard to explain the "profile" behaviour without screenshots, which I won't be able to take until tomorrow. As you know Palm Desktop has "profiles" and "users" in the "users" window. I don't know what the difference for these is, I only know that profiles can't have their conduits changed, which is what's happening to me. I'm reinstalling 4.1.4 (plain) today after removing it all, and let's see if it works. |
