Upgrade to Blazer 4.5 for TX?

Several reviews for the new Treo 700p SmartPhone say that it comes with Blazer 4.5 browser. My TX has Blazer 4.3. I wonder if my TX can be upgraded to the new version of Blazer? If so, where could I find it?

Interesting...

It's possible of course, all "we" need is some one to start the rolling ball more commonly known as rom nicking.

It might be as simple as extracting the prc from the device, or as complex as making a patch to fool the app, into think it's still on a treo. But it is very possible.

Any idea what new features this one has?

supposedly Blazer 4.5 includes streaming video capabilities (according to Palm's site)..... but it sounds like that would come from a modified Media app.....

From a review at: http://www.pdastreet.com/articles/2...00p-Merges.html

To better take advantage of high-speed broadband, he told PDAStreet Palm updated the Blazer browser to version 4.5. Sinclair said it delivers content faster with improved rendering through better JavaScript handling, caching, a new - optional - mode to remove all pictures, as well as better audio and video streaming.

OK... this is exactly what the guys at Palm said they were going to release in Feb. as an upgrade for the TX. I feel a bit miffed. They haven't even released a patch to fix the javascript handling....

Not even "proper cache handling" is on 4.3 : sometimes it gets the page from the cache, sometimes its asks you to go online for no reason. Even on saved pages.

WHoa!!!

Check out this video of Blazer in action on a 700P
http://mobilitytoday.com/articles/palm_treo_700p.html

I think palm screwed as with the nvfs thing, and made us all a big beta program, cause the 700p looks crazy fast.

The guys at www.treocentral.com have kicked off trying to port it to earlier Treo's - look at the last few posts of the thread there headed "Fast-mode Blazer for 650!".

The earlier posts are about porting the Lifedrive Upgrade Blazer to Treos which they succeeded doing but then, guess what? They got the Blazer download insufficent memory issue!!!!!

Anyway the info here should give those with the skills a good start (not that I understand a word of it). Apparently palm have deliberately made it difficult.

The Treo 700p has NetFrontlib.prc installed on it in ROM. The file is over 1 MB. Does anyone find this odd? This is probably why Treo 700p is Access-Powered along with the fact that Access owns Palm OS.

If I'm not mistaken... The TXs also have NetFrontlib installed into ROM... I'm pretty sure it's because Blazer is written on the NetFront core.

Right! Palm bought the rights to NetFront. Blazer is based on the NetFront rendering engine. (believe it or not!)

To @ Veritech:

Nice link to the Mobility Today site. I don't know anyone who uses a Treo, so the opportunity to see an overview of one in action was nice. I have never considered a smartphone before (I still find the form-factor unappealing), but this video has helped to open my eyes to the possibilities of being connected almost anywhere! I'm still looking for T-Mobile to do more in this product category. Until then, I'll keep my "non-converged" devices within arm's reach!

I've installed it on the TX simulator and it works fine, but when I install it on my TX, I get into a reset loop .
