Unhappy Those dam pre installed apps

Those dam pre installed apps. I would really like to know how to remove those apps that come pre installed on my sony clie UX50. Like, Pixel viewer, clie viewer, clie memo, netfront, and more. I never use these apps and they just sit there taking up memory. It's not fair that you can't just remove them and just have the apps that you need and use. Any ideas.

Well if they're built in and not removable. odds are that they are in ROM and not taking up a lot of RAM anyway. But JackSprat once was popular as a means of cleaning up ROM so that JackFlash could exploit more ROM for apps you actually want. I don't know if they work with a UX50; they did work with some Clies.

HTH,
Frank

Please note that Jack Sprat and Jack Flash are potentially very dangerous programs, as you could inadvertently delete something from ROM that will brick your PDA. I'd strongly discourage you from using them unless you really know for sure what you are doing.

I used the Jacks on my T3, just go to the vendor's website & check out if it is safe to use them on your device.

Jack-Flash/Sprat DO NOT WORK on Sony TH55s. Sony never would release the code to them. I loved these apps on my NX80v. The best thing was moving your security app (TealLock in my case) to FlashROM. Then even after a hard reset, your device was useless (locked) to a thief or "finder."

Picsel Viewer is in internal memory so it takes no place in RAM.
You can put netfront in internal memory to save 2 Mo of RAM, I think it's the same for cliémemo.

Jackflash/Sprat are dangerous to use and are, normally, not working on UX.

Well.... I guess I started a JS/JF thread that's a tad off topic but that's water over the dam.

I used JS and JF on a Palm IIIx, IIIc (?), Clie NR70v, NX70v, and T3 and never lost a device. The closest I came was I did something bad to the T3. The Brayder support folks told me how to put the T3 into ROM restore mode (via sync cradle and a ROM file on the PC.) ROM restore is completely built into the PDA hardware so nothing done to the ROM can break the process.

So all in all *my experience* was that it was fail safe -- YMMV.

I used them on my T2 and T3 without any problems. Great utilities. I'm not that bothered about them on the TX though, as there is such a lot of RAM. That said, it would be nice
