| NVBackup beta 13 Dmitry has very kindly shared with me his clever trick for reading/writing the NVFS data without shutting down NVFS (look in ZVFSRead() in zip.c if interested), so there is no need for a reset after a backup. I realize that at least one person liked the reset, so there is an option to insert a reset after a successful scheduled backup. http://handypalmstuff.sf.net
Alex
p.s. Is there somewhere a list of all the NVFS devices and which ones support SD cards?

| Feature request First of all...Thank you to both Pruss and Dmitry for making this available for free! Now... my request...Any chance of getting multiple scheduled backups?

What is the advantage of NOT shutting down NVFS prior to reading/writing the data, other than no reset? I don't under stand what ZVFSRead() in zip.c means? Usually I say if it's not broke don't fix it - I actually lilke the reset But if there is an advantage to keeping the NVFS up - then I'll do it. Thanks.

| The lack of a reset is important for LifeDrive users for whom a reset takes three minutes. Moreover, if I ever add Selective Backup (in addition to Selective Restore which is there already), this will make Selective Backup much more useful. It's also kind of nice that without the reset, you might leave your PDA in some app, and then in the morning it'll still be in that app, unless you've had a backup failure in which case when you turn on your PDA, you'll find an error message. But if you still want the reset option, it's there for scheduled backups. (Note: The standard behavior for scheduled backups now is to turn off the PDA when done.) I still shut off NVFS prior to writing, because I don't know how to delete data in NVFS without shutting it off.
That said, there were bugs in b13. I've just released beta 14.
I'm having trouble updating the sf.net site, so temporarily beta 14 is here: http://www.prussfamily.us/NVBackup100beta14.zip
Another nice feature is that the backlight can be set to turn off during a backup to conserve battery. This only works on the TX. (More precisely, it requires a device where I know where in the prefs the backlight data is set, so I don't accidentally backup the no-backlight state. Non-TX users can, of course, try the option and see what happens. Probably nothing (it shouldn't crash or anything like that).)

| I am having a problem with my first run of beta13. I am trying to update a backup with no reset setting that was created using reset after setting. After every file it says "...error opening". Is this one of the bugs fixed in beta 14?

| I am using a LifeDrive. And the same thing happens with Beta14.

| How delightful.
I'm getting an occasional crash when exiting NVBackup. Haven't figured it out yet.

I was just going to mention that. Happened in both 14 and 15. Backup works though
CrashPro reports this: Application: NVBackup 1.0b15
MemoryMgr.c, Line 3877: Invalid chunk ptr

| Alex: tried b13 with the following results. Manual and Scheduled Backups ran fine. Restore and Selective Restore performed without major problems. (After several tries, only once I faced a blank screen, could not turn it on with any hard button, had to soft reset and everything was fine. The problem did not repeat.)
The only things I found were:
1-In Options, Preferences, Turn Off Screen When Working, turns the brightness to its lowest level, but it does not turn it off. (Not a big deal for me since an update takes 3 mins and a full backup may take 20 mins). I just wanted to let you know, in case you wanted to do something like audio players do.
2-In Options, Preferences: Reset after scheduled backup, does not reset the machine. The TX turns off and when you turn it on, you see the launcher screen or wherever you were before the scheduled backup started. I´ve noticed that the preference does not stay checked if I go again to that screen.
This is a small suggestion if you have some time: in the Selective Restore screen, where you choose the databases to restore, it would be nice to write the first character of the database and see the list jump to the databases with that letter. Also, the list could scroll down when pressing the Nav-down button.
Thanks once again for your time.
Edit: you are faster coding than me testing! I will try b15 as soon as I can download it. I am having troubles with my connection and pc.
Regards,
