Using a Nagiwara device for Bluetooth Connexion with a mobile phone.

First, you have to buy the Nagiwara device, it's a little dongle that you have to plug on the serial port of the VZ90.
It gives you Bluetooth ability to connect on internet using a mobile phone or a GPS.
VERY IMPORTANT, the Obex layer is NOT implemented in the Nagiwara driver, so you CAN NOT exchange files using bluetooth...
I tried to mail them a while ago, yet no asnwer

I°) Installation:

Go to the CD-ROM and browse it.
Go to the "HSC" directory and copy file BT_adaptaterSet.prc to your computer.
Manage to copy BT_adaptaterSet.prc to RAM, no need to soft reset.

II°) Bluetooth configuration:
Plug the bluetooth nagiwara device and launch the "BT Ada Utl". The red led on the nagiwara should blink.

We need to "discover" the bluetooth device (mobile phone) we want to use.
For that, we need to tap the right button to scan for Bluetooth devices.

The BT Scan done, you choose the device (Left button to choose, right button to cancel):

And input this data:

ON
ON
0000 (bluetooth code)
60
Then Tap the Left Button to confirm. (The right button is "Cancel").
Then you got two confirmations window that comes, you need to tap "OK" both times.
Then the software exits and comes back to the launcher.

During the process (after the exits) your mobile should ask if you want to add the "Clie-BT adapater" to your trusted devices.

If you need to change some of the the data, launch "BT Ada Utl" and use the Left button.

III°) the Palm Preferences:
On the Palm, we need to create a Connection and a Network.
There is a tip for the the Connection, usually we use the Bluetooth, here we have to choose Cable / Cradle.

Launch the Palm Preferences:

1°) The connection:
Make a new Connection.

Parameters:

name: gsm
connect to: modem
via: cradle/cable
dialing: touchtone
volume: low

Tap on Details button (right button):

Speed: 57,600 bps
Flow Ctrl: Automatic
Init String: AT+CGDCONT=3,"IP","websfr"
Tap OK button.

Tap OK button to confim the Connection.

2°) the Network:
Make a new Network.

Name: bt
Username: G
Password: G
Connection: gsm (the one we created )
Phone number: *99***3#
Of course you need to put the data of your provider here...

Tap on Details (left button) for the IP configuration:

Protocol: PPP
Idle: Never
Uncheck automatic DNS.
First DNS: 172.20.2.10
Of course you need to put the data of your provider here...
check Automatic IP.

Tap on Script (right button):

You shoud have nothing there
Tap OK Or cancel (Right button) to exit.

tap OK to confirm the IP configuration.

Now you can try the connection taping the right button

Thanks, Imame!

Thanks for taking the time to post this! I had played around with the Hagiwara HNT-BT1 Bluetooth adapter a long time ago and then gave up on it when I couldn't get it to work transferring files over Bluetooth. I'll try setting it up with a Bluetooth phone later. I wonder why Sony left Bluetooth out, considering they were able to include it with the UX50 and TH55. I guess it's true that the Japanese don't really care for the Bluetooth protocol...

Indeed that's the reason of the lack of Bluetooth
No problem for the guide, it should work for internet connection, I tried with several phones and no problem

Doesn`t a sony clie bluetooth memory stick exist? I do remember one of my local stores selling them for cheap being a discountinued line. As for Sony supporting bluetooth i have a fairly recent Japanese Sony Vaio which has bluetooth designed internally and using a bluetooth mouse so it looks more like Sony is supporting it now. Althrough the lack of bluetooth in the vz90 was a bit odd.

Yes it exists, still no driver for Palm OS 5, if I remember correctly we already spoke of this earlier

For the bluetooth, remember that it is quite different when the Clie came out, look at mobile phones, at the time, there were very very very few which were "bluetooth inside".

Hi Imame,

I have a SONY Memory stick BT and have it loaded on my NX80 which is Palm 5.0. I loaded this with the SONY UK Blue Cafe drivers. I thought the VZ did not have the internal capability for Bluetooth. (I remember CliePet mentioning this) Should I give it a try?

The VZ has no Bluetooth capability, that's why you have to use the special "BT_adaptaterSet.prc" which is with the Nagiwara device...
What do you want to try?

Imame,

I have the bluetooth memory stick by SONY with Palm 5.0 drivers. I was under the impression that it would not work in the VZ. I will try it and let you know. SONY's JP site does not mention it's compatibility.

When I traveled with my NX80 I was able to plug in a bluetooth memory stick adaptor and get my mail in the US, Italy and even China. I was recently given a TH55 which I am greatly enjoying, but evidently does not have bluetooth. Plugging the bluetooth memory stick adaptor into the TH55 causes a freeze necessitating a reset, I gather this is because there is no OS5 driver for it.

I just found postings talking about the Hagiwara Sys-Com HNT-BT1 mentioned here, but it looks like it hasn't been made (or at least sold) for several years.

Can anyone help me with my search to connect my TH55 and cel phone?

Sorry to bump and thanks in advance.

cattaylor - unfortunately, no one has been able to get the blue tooth adaptors to work with the US version of the TH55. The previous posts give the same results you had of requiring a reset of their TH55 after inserting the BT card.

I guess I was just hoping something might have changed in the intervening couple of years. Any thoughts on the Hagiwara Sys-Com HNT-BT1? I have searched online and only find sites that don't seem to translate into anything indicating possible sales.

Thanks,

Cat

Your best option is to take up Dan T with his offer to swap out your TH55U motherboard with a TH55 E model. Then you have all the hardware in one neat package and no worries about compatible software.
