| Sony's NWE407 and NWA608 Hi, Ive been looking around for an new mp3 player for a long time, and finally decided to stcik with Sony like all my other products, but now i've narrowed it down to 2 mp3 players. The shape and design is the same but the NWA608 is newer (2gb) where the other one has 1 gb. My question is, does anyone know what are the differences between those 2 mp3 players? Beside the point that they have different storage capacity. Like I really need to know if they have same sound quality, bass, tremble, functions, etc. What are all the differences in them? Thanks in advanced. |

| They both have amazing battery life (50 hours!)
And quick charge 3 min=3 hours of playback.
If they sound is like other Sony products, such as Clies, the sound should be great (better than an iPod)

Honestly, don't bother with Sony when it comes ot anything that involves digital audio. Especially if you wan to play MP3s. Push their nice product design away and you're left with a second rate player that has been coupled with some of most atrocious interface software on the market. Their sound quality falls short of other players, especially the iPod, which sounds vastly better. Sony states that their players have MP3 support, which is true, but think of it as an after thought, where Sony really doesn't want you to use any format but their own. (ATRAC3)
Stick with Apple for digital audio players. Their understanding in this field is second to none. Their players are coupled with quality components and second to none UI design. Apple will not get in your way when it comes to managing your music. They give you choice. They give all of their supported formats the same respect and do not intentionlly limit features, as Sony does.
My Clié is by far the worst audio device I've had the displeasure of owning.
If you're only buying this Sony for the FM tuner, then that's OK, but for its other features, like half-arse MP3 support, it's not worth it.
Dragongames, a Clié sounds better than an iPod. That's complete "nonsense." You should probably get your ears checked.

Well, the overly compressed audio that sounded fine on my Clié, did sound absolutely horrid on my iPod. But this is because the iPod's superior audio chip allowed me to clearly hear all of the imperfections.
Unless your Clié just came out, which it didn't, there's no way it would sound better than a newer iPod.
Tell the truth, you don't like the iPod, because "so-and-so" owns one?

| I played a song on a Clie, then played the same song on the iPod, and the Clie blew it away...

I think you better turn down the sound on your iPod if its causing you to vomit in your mouth
Just remember iPod price and handheld price are the same but handhelds do more. So if you want a convergence device, you get a handheld. If you want to listen to music all day and be bored and have to wait to get home to view webpages and documents, then get an iPod. Or you can watch a video on the iPod and in an hour have to put it away due to a dead battery.
That simple.

| No doubt, a PDA is cool, especially for self entertainment and tinkering in an ultra small package, but for music, I'll stick with the best. My iPod lives on my monitor shelf 96% of the time, so putting a PDA up there would be a waist. The other 4% of the time, it's plugged into my Powerbook, playing my music without accessing the PB's internal HDD.
1 hour for video, it gets double that. That's pathetic and I'm not denying it. My PB when its battery was good, had enough juice to watch two DVDs back to back. The new battery I'm plannig on replacing it with, will give me about 6.5 hours.
And it's the overly compressed music, like the 128K 44k MP3, that Dragongames is using that makes me vomit. The Clié is good for crap like that, because it filters out the artifacts, but of course the audio file gets somewhat muffled, where as the iPod allows you to clearly hear how crapy that bit-rate really is. I'm in losslessville now days, especially since my iPod still has 8.86 GB free.

| Yes, yes, ok. But I still love my Clie. Maybe I should have gotten the TH55 instead of the VZ90, but I think if I get a second MP3 only device, I will be fine. If only the Sony NW-E507 worked on a Mac. PLEASE SOMEONE! MAKE A HACK! I AM BEGGING YOU!!!

| By the time some makes a crack, if ever, if ever, you'll have enough money for a Nano.
Only $149, vs $129 for the Sony on average. 20 bucks gets you a sweet little screen, a whole gig more and OS X support.
Check out this review; http://phonephile.blogspot.com/2005...-ipod-nano.html
