SD card mystery...

I was using a sandisk 512 card in my T/X and would have no problem hotsyncing stuff onto it or transferring files from ram. It was showing me as having around 50% free memory on the card so I thought, I'll stick on a dvd I'd ripped as there would be plenty space left...no no no. It said there was not enough room on the card. Hmmmm...so I thought well, it must be a faulty card and I purchased another 512 card (Kingston). Same problem, card shows 50% free space on the card. I downloaded backupman, set it up to back up twice daily and the first time the backup is due it comes up with the message - not enough space on the card. I tried adding in files from ram and it works okay with no error messages. A backup of my stuff is only about 8mb so why is this message coming up. I've been through every file on the card via Fileman and FileZ and tehre's nothing lurking in there big enough to cause the problem. This must be something to do with the T/X then...but what? Any ideas

Hi,
a)Whereto are you trying to back up. Into a subdfolder or into the root folder of the card?

b)Check the cards apacity with Windows XP via a Cardreader, Drivemode or Card Export 2. FAT slack may be killing you-especially if you have many tiny files on there.

Hi Tam
- backupman doesn't give you the choice as to where you back up - or does it?
- I have about 60 repligo files on the card,20 isilo files, 40 jpegs, 10 docs to go files and that's about it. Sorry, what do you mean by "apacity" ?
thanks for you help
Murray

Could be a format issue. Try reformatting the card in Windows using a card reader.

How do you format the card using a card reader, I've stuck the card in the reader but I can't seem to find on the pc where the option exists to reformat it?

Insert card into Card Reader. Launch Windows Explorer. Select the Card Drive. Right Click. I would recommend copying the data on the card to a new folder on your computer's desktop before you format.

Hi, what is your SD card's speed? I found incompatibility issues with 512MB Ridata Pro 150X and Transcend 80X with my T/X. I have also read the same problems from other forums. I'm now using 1 Gig Ridata Pro 66X, and never experienced same problems again.

thanks for your help Tam...
cards are SanDisk 512mb andf Kingston 1gb elite pro (50x).
I used a card-reader last night, I reformatted it in the T/X and then loaded on the same stuff. I managed to get a film on (208mb) on top of what was there and the card is now about 75% full - this is the fullest I have managed to get it so far so hopefully the problem has been solved. On a seprate matter, I use BackupBuddy for my back-ups and every time I try to load up the programme it soft resets immediately...then when I go in the next time it loads up okay.
