It's not perfect but at least it can run...

I tried opera for many times and it crashed every time...so I gived up.

Netfront is well enough for me. supporting UTF-8, SSL, change page size, except frame...I can't browser website with frames.. who knows how?

Thanks for the link to a working java vm. At first opera mini was crashing for me too - it would start up but then crash back to the application list whenever I tried to load a page.

However I found that if I alter some settings under "IBM Java VM" in the prefs app, then it becomes much more stable.

I increased the "Maximum memory" to 4Mb and set the "Maximum Java Thread Stack Size" to 4Kb. Opera mini is now much more stable, though it does occasionally slow down dramatically on large pages. There seems to be no full screen or landscape support either, probably due to the th55 not supporting the standard palm api for this.

It's interesting to play around with, but I think that when I'm on the move netfront combined with the google xhtml interface (which also rewrites pages for mobile devices but doesn't need a java app) is a better solution for me.

Before installation IBM JVM has to be installed. Then enable double buffering in System - Prefs - Other: IBM Java VM. When the Opera Mini JAD-file hSony CLIE PEG-TH55 as been downloaded, Opera Mini is installed by clicking the IBM Java icon and choosing install.


My installation results:
