On the news page, there is a post stating that LJP 1.0 rc 3 has been released. It takes you to palmopensource, but no download link is there. then i went to the LJP site and there is no mention of LJP being updated. What gives? Anyone know.

Sure, it was a little misunderstanding with the news report. RC2 is out, but launcher issues haved plagued RC3. Once Tinnus is able to rewrite the launcher, it will be released, though I do not know when this will be. The LJP site makes it look like RC3 has been released, so I do understand why they said this.
