| She's Sicilian, so very civilized and her ancestors killed lots of my ancestors.
Acutally, its only $700 to replace the screen, well at least retail. http://store.yahoo.com/macresource/pog48615resc.html
I didn't mention this, but on the 29th we sent her notebook in again, because she got a dent on the front some how, so it destroyed a couple of discs with nasty scratches. And the logicboard is being replaced, because even though they replaced the screen earlier this year, she experience weird graphic glitches every other week and it started to get more frequent, so something on the board was damaged also, that they didn't detect.
But anyways, all covered under warranty. Just wanted to send it in before my AppleCare was up, which was on the 9th.
And, since we have Macs, all it takes is a FireWire cable to transfer her content to another temp computer, like "my" PB, which she's currently using. I have to back up my stuff, but since it's not my primary, it doesn't bother me. Blah blah blah.

| So, what is faster: Radeon mobile 9550, or GeForce FX Go5200? I am starting to lean towards the 14" iBook since all the hardware is so similar between that and 12" PB. I like the 12" form factor more; it just seems like that PB is a gen or two behind the others in its line. It has the same ram as an ibook, similar hard drive, little slower proc, both have super drives, and PB has much higher price tag.

| The 9550, by enough to make a difference.
My parents picked up an iBook the other year and have had a great experience with it.
The PBs cost more, because the screens are nicer, more ram capacity, (generally) faster graphic chips, external monintor support, and a higher-grade motherboard to name a few. They're worth the additional cost, but you can't go wrong with an iBook either.
Do you have an Apple store where you live, or CompUSA, so you can compare from first hand experience?

| That must be why the iBooks come with a free game or two

| Sadly enough, we have both. The apple store is too crowded with christmas shoppers to enable a fair comparison. Our Compusa(s) doesn't have a large apple area. They have one or two from each line and that's it. They have room for one of evry pc made and software dating back to my packard bell, just not much room for apples.

Glad somebody found that as amusing as me. If the ibook had 64MB of video ram, I would buy it and be done. I'd have to get the 14" to get the SuperDrive; but, I would live. IT would still be cheaper than the 12" PB anyway. In fact, if you closely examine the specs, the 12" PB has more in common with the ibooks than the other powerbooks.
ibooks vs. 12" PBook vs. 15"+
optical: combodrive(super on 14")/ superdrive / superdrive DL
RAM: pc2700 ram/ pc2700 / pc4200
Ethernet: 10-100LAN / 10-100LAN / 1000Mb LAN
HDD: 40-60GB@4200RPM / 80-100GB@5400 / up to 120 or 100@7200rpm
Video: Radeon 9550 32MB / FX Go5200 64MB / Radeon 9700 128MB
They all have 512MB of RAM, but only the 12" PB needs two sodimms to acomplish it. Essentially wasting 256MB if you decide up upgrade later.
There is more, I just can't think of it.
Now that I see it this way, it makes me wonder what justification is there for the price diffrence between the 14"ibook and the 12" PB.
I am gonna try to swing by the apple store early in the day sometime next week. Maybe it will be emptier. Compusa just generally sux and I avoid them whenever possible.
