Based on the small sample of owners we have here - no it is not common.
You are the first one to report a problem AFAIK.

Did you just buy the unit and notice the bad pixel, or did it "go bad" later ?
---
The VZ90 was only sold in Japan. If new (and still under warranty) you will have to return it to Japan. If you bought through a 3rd party (proxy buyer), they may provide that service - if you are lucky.
That's one of the perils of buying imports...

It "go bad" later. The spot is not always red, sometimes can be black, depending the colour to be displayed.
Mine is still under warranty, but the documents are in japanese. I can't read them.

Unhappy

is it really normal?? i found 2! gawd gawd, im now thinking it;s a 'bad' unit since there are only 2 left in all the stores in tokyo that i went to! i didnt check this unit since we were going to leave that day. and also another concern, there are like grid lines composed of dots but this one is not THAt visible, im thinking this should be normal but the 2 red pixels are definitely not! my my bad =(
