LOL, you mean like me?

I still like the TX but it's now a tough decision to drop one over the other. It's already December, and I think there will be a shift towards the LD now. Maybe that's why Palm waited ...

Hmmm.. Just too bad they aren't around to make them any longer. They impressed themselves out of the PDA business.

I installed the update yesterday, no problems so far. I took the opportunity to make a cleanup, i.e. not just restore everything with RescoBackup, but gradually. Overall the LD is faster. Can't report about the stability for the moment, I didn't use it long enough. I do, however, still have the "Cannot load shared library" reset in Versamail when opening a freshly loaded email (doesn't happen all the time, just from time to time). No idea what causes this.

Ok, this really sucks...

My LD was bought in Hong Kong, but I use English as the default language. The update aborded with an incompatible error... so does that mean I have to wait for the multilingual version of the update?? Com'mon... it takes forever for Palm to come up with any mulitilingual version update - that is if it comes at all!!!

I'm going to try a fresh install of everything, but I'm not optimistic at all about it. I really don't mine ditching that chinese version down to the toilet in a second (I can buy and install CJKOS in it any time later anyway) just to have this update install on my LD...

Damn it!!!

How did you do it? Yours is the multilingual version too, right?

I did a hard reset and start everything from scratch to install this update - obviously not working. I'm going to restore everything back to where I hard reset before, and see if it goes when I update on top of it.

Hi Wally,

yup mine is multilingual too (not sure if it had chinese or Japanese - I always just looked for and clicked the English button).

I followed the install exactly as Palm said. From what Ive been reading on some boards it seems to me that a lot of the problems that have occurred seemed to have happened with people who thought they knew a better way of updating than Palm did.

If you have done it exactly as Palm said and its not working then Im sorry I cant help.

Oh one thing maybe, make sure you've freed up the 29 meg minimum regarding the rom before you start.

I did it exactly like it says here,

Mac:

Prepare Your LifeDrive Device

1. Connect your device its charger. It needs to be connected throughout the update.
2. Make sure you know your device's user name: how to find it. You'll need this to restore your data.

Create a new, blank user profile

3. Perform a HotSync operation to back up your data. Make sure your conduits are set to "Synchronize the files" (how).
4. Perform a hard reset.
5. Your device will ask you to tap three targets, set date and time, and confirm setup. Do this now.
6. Next, you will create a new profile:
1. Perform a HotSync operation.
2. You will be asked to select a user or create a new account. Select New and enter a completely new user name (such as "TempDelete").
3. Finish the sync. Your device will contain none of your user data at this point.

Download and Install

7. Download LifeDrive_Update_2_0_mac.sit
(20.0 MB StuffIt archive)
8. Your Mac's web browser should automatically expand the file into a folder named "LifeDrive_Update_2_0_mac" which contains 36 Palm OS PRC and PDB files. If it doesn't, you will need to use a utility such as Allume StuffIt Expander to decompress the file. Note the folder location in which the decompressed files are saved. These are the files you should see:
* AAACheckerApp.prc
* AAACheckerApp_deDE.prc
* AAACheckerApp_enUS.prc
* AAACheckerApp_esES.prc
* AAACheckerApp_frFR.prc
* AAACheckerApp_itIT.prc
* BrahmaBEFIGS.pdb
* brahma-ipl-dvt2.md5.pdb
* brahma-ipl-dvt2.pdb
* brahma-ipl-dvt.md5.pdb
* brahma-ipl-dvt.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.a.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.b.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.c.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.d.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.e.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.f.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.g.pdb

* brahma-palmos.zip.h.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.i.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.j.pdb
* brahma-palmos.zip.md5.pdb
* brahma-palmos-tpl.md5.pdb
* brahma-palmos-tpl.pdb
* brahma-recoveryspl.md5.pdb
* brahma-recoveryspl.pdb
* brahma-spl.md5.pdb
* brahma-spl.pdb
* DeviceCustomizerApp.prc
* DeviceCustomizerApp_deDE.prc
* DeviceCustomizerApp_enUS.prc
* DeviceCustomizerApp_esES.prc
* DeviceCustomizerApp_frFR.prc
* DeviceCustomizerApp_itIT.prc
* Inventory.pdb
* RomUpdater.prc

Important: Although you may be tempted to use Drive Mode to transfer these files to your device's Internal Drive or an expansion card - don't. The installer was designed to be transferred via HotSync operation only. Read on.
9. Launch Palm Desktop on your Mac. From the HotSync menu, select Install Handheld Files.
10. In the Install Handheld Files window, select the new user name you created above (such as "TempDelete").
11. Drag and drop the 36 Palm OS files above into the Install Handheld Files window. Do not change the destination to Secure Digital (SD) Card; keep it as Handheld.
12. Perform a HotSync operation. This will transfer the installer to your device.
13. The update will begin automatically when synchronization is complete. Do not disconnect the charging cable. You will see a screen that says "Updating Device ROM."
Note: During the update, your device may reset several times. This is normal. However, if your device turns off and takes more than 30 seconds to turn back on, or will not power on, perform a soft reset.
14. When the update is complete, you'll see a series of targets to calibrate the touchscreen. Do this, then set the time and date. Then select Done.

Restore Data

15. Perform a HotSync operation. Important: When asked for your user name, select the previous user name that you looked up earlier (not "TempDelete"). The backed up personal data and applications will be restored to your device. If you need help with HotSync, start here.
16. If you have paired Bluetooth wireless devices, you will need to re-pair those devices now. The secure pairing files are not backed up or restored with synchronization.
17. Important: Now you should delete the temporary user name you created above ("TempDelete"). Never sync to the temporary user name after performing the update, or the updater will be re-installed on your device whenever you sync. To delete the temporary user name:
1. On your Mac, launch Palm Desktop.
2. From the HotSync menu, select User, then Edit Users.
3. Click on the new user name you created above (such as "TempDelete").
4. Click on Delete. When asked to confirm, select Delete.

Actually I was wrong, you need to make sure you have 23 megs free of rom (not 29).

My LD is also multilingual and I use the English. The update seemed to go without any problems. I later checked the Wifilib version and it is 1.07 as it is supposed to be. The only thing "strange" that I noticed is that when I do a hard reset, I only get the same options that I used to. In other words, there is no option to hard reset without wiping out the whole thing. Is this normal or have I missed something. Other than that, it seems to work better with the exception of my beaming. It always works great until I put in my various programs and then it quits! I know that it is some software conflict, but I have never been able to discover which or what combination causes it. I was hoping this update would have resolved that situation, but apparently not.

Would appreciate any comments.

I don't have a Mac to try it on, but since you have a multilingual unit that can be updated, there shouldn't be any reason that mine won't work.

I actually wiped my unit clean to do the update installation, so that "23M minimum" requirement is not a problem.

On the PC side, I ran the updater .exe file, hotsync the unit, files synced into the unit as it goes, LD rebooted, then it comes the "version not compatible" error, and that's it.

Just upgraded. It went flawlessly. Im loving my device even more now. I can finally listen to music and play championship spades and checkers, and My Little Tank while listening to music with no skipping or jumping. Also, blazer loads pages much faster than before. Im glad i stayed and didnt switch.
