| Bad charge circuit I've done something very stupid, but I need some help to know how to fix it.
I got the G700 keyboard and wanted to use the charging feature. So I bought a simple transformer that was the correct voltage and 1200 mA. This transformer has different connectors for different devices. I picked the one that fit, but apparently inserted it wrong reversing the polarity. When I sat the th55 on the keyboard connector nothing happened to the charge indicator. When I tried to charge the TH55 normally with its cable, the charge indicator would not come up. The battery status indicates Power: External, Battery: Not in use. Otherwise the TH55 works just fine.
I'm pretty sure I fried the charge circuit and I have tried every trick in these forums to get the battery to charge, but nothing has worked.
Is there any way to fix the charge circuit, or do I need to buy another TH55 for parts?
Looking on Ebay, people are paying about $150.00 for broken, beat up TH55's. That's ridiculous, don't you think?
Thanks, ice9mike |

There is probably a fuse or equivalent (if not intentionally so) sacrificial component on the mainboard. If that is all that has failed it should be possible to swap it out, provided you can identify it. Trouble is, at this scale, the smaller surface-mount discretes all look very similar.
$150 for a borked TH55 too much? Compared to swapping yours for a reconditioned previously-borked one from Sony for an extortionate fee? Possibly not, depending on what needs fixing.
One thought - if you have access to a BC-10 battery adapter, see if toggling the switch changes the status fields in the Battery Information dialog. With a working TH55 you'd see Internal/Discharging, External/Not in use, and External/Charging, for ' Off', ' On' and ' Charge', respectively. |
