Zire 72 - SMS & Dialling with Nokia 6230i

I'm using a Zire 72 and a Nokia 6230i, both of which I'm very happy with. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to use SMS or dialer functions from my Zire 72. The Palm Phone Link doesn't list the 6230i, so I have been using the Universal Phone Driver. Everything is fine, up to a point. The 6230i recognises the Zire 72, connects to it and enters into the Remote SIM mode, but after a while it disconnects, and the Zire 72 displays an error message saying that it is unable to connect to the phone. Any ideas?

I contacted Palm with this problem, and got this reply:

Email:eurotechsupport.ee@palm.com

Reference: KMM149870I6774L0KM

We would like to inform you that a phone driver for mobile phone model 6230i has not been developed yet by palmOne due to the low number of requests received. Your query has been transmitted to our developers for their information.

So if you want it to happen, then get emailing the requests in!

Talking Solution

Hi,
there actually is a workaround for getting the 6230i and Zire72 working together as they should be able to. It's a damn shame Palm isn't willing to solve this problem for the Zire users - they're just lazy .
To get the Zire72 to dial and sms with the 6230i you have to use a file from the Palm T5 on the Zire (this by the way also solves the same problem on the T3). The filename is BtCommVdrv.prc. Download the file at:
http://www.geocities.com/ppalmt3/BtCommVdrv_T5.prc

Copy the file to your SD-card. Then copy to the device and softreset.
This should do the trick, but ofcourse you have to define your phone and connection properly for everything to work.
If you are having trouble setting up a gprs connection I can recommend the program "mobile high speed".

I hope it works for you.

Exclamation

Ah I forgot to mention,
you should rename the file BtCommVdrv_T5.prc to BtCommVdrv.prc before copying it from the card to the device. Otherwise the Zire won't use it in stead of the original file.

Mmm, I don't know really why it wouldn.t work, cmelak.igor. You should be able to replace the original.
Maybe it's an 'in memory' problem: you could try again with bluetooth disabled on your device.

My problem seems to be the same; sending sms with my T3 using a SE K800i. It sends the sms, but on miy T3 i get an error: 'Unable to connect to phone'. I can't replace the BtCommVdrv.prc file because it is in the rom of my T3. Any idea's?

Hi everybody!

My husband has just upgraded his ancient (and reliable) Nokia 6110i to a 3120 Classic. Unfortunately this phone has the same problems with accepting SMSs from his Sony Clie TH-55 as others have reported with their own PDAs in the thread above.

Using the various bits of good advice in the thread, we finally managed to get the two devices paired, but now have come up against the "External SIM Mode" problem that others have also reported. I would love to go to the next step and download a copy of the old Tungsten T5 file BtCommVdrv_T5.prc that seems to be part of a useful workaround for the problem, but unfortunately the former home of the file (http://www.geocities.com/ppalmt3/BtCommVdrv_T5.prc) is now gone.

Can anyone suggest another source for the file? Unfortunately it's no longer present at Palm support: the present Phone Link update contains files with completely different names.

Alternately, if anyone could email me a copy of this file at diane dot duane at gmail dot com, I'd be most grateful. (And also glad to give the file a permanent home on one of our various websites.)

Thanks much for your help, everybody!

Best -- Diane
