IPod vs PSP as movie players

Maybe this thread will discuss the Pros and Cons of using either an IPod or a PSP as a video player.

IPod has a smaller screen but is more compact and easier to carry than the PSP. The PSP slim is lighter than the old "fat" PSP but is still heavier than an IPOD yet has the large rscreen that is more similar to a HD screen.

There is a charging dock and adaptors to play files for an IPod onto a television. Yesterday a customer showed the family guy episode onto his HDTV which played very well. As far as I know PSP has no Charging with viewing adaptors dock but has to "lie down" to play onto a television.

More and more Apple is selling Video media for their IPod. The PSP thru Fox and Sony Studios offer the UMD format for best viewing and can use memorystick memory storage of videos.

Programs are offered to convert other media formats to play on Apple IPods and Sony PSP.
-----------------------------------------
Both Sony PSP and Apple IPods have not the option of OLED screens. The best portable movie viewer was made for the high end Clie with an OLED screen. It may be possible for Sony to offer OLED for its PSP line.
-------------------------------------
Recording and playing edited HD format is still in the teething stage. Sony and others have offered HD cameras but the software to edit filmed movies is still a work in progress.

The "winner" will ultimately be the one who can provide an easy way for normal users to get video and use it in a variety of ways. Right now, the iPod provides the easiest way: iTunes.

Another is the coolness factor. I believe people want to be seen with an iPod rather than with a PSP.

...and I still use my TX (I use the iPod compression settings though).

The PSP as it currently operates has too many hurdles to make it a contender, which is a shame as it really does work well as a video player.

The PSP can actually display on TVs, albeit I don't know if it's in HDTV. The newer PSP-2000 models can display basically anything on to TVs such as movies and games via component cables at resolutions up to 720x480 (DVD res). I'm not sure what resolutions iPods can display, but I've seen demos/displays at stores and it looks like normal DVD resolution as well.

I think the other major difference is the nature of the device itself. The iPod is a dedicated media player, where as the PSP is a dedicated video game console. Given this, it's hard to really compare the two simply because they're designed for different purposes (let's see you try and kick intergalactic but on an iPod)

The winner will be everyone when video is simple to use. Here is a website that will convert your videos on your computer or website into a format usable by IPod PSP or other media device:
http://media-convert.com/

For example I had a MOV file from my cybershot camera converted to a mp4 file for my PSP. It took the internet to convert the file in three minutes to convert the three minute file. No need to register, just browse to your file, mark the input format and mark it to the finished format. No need to download conversion files, they convert for you. Then you download your finished file. (edit: However on second check the site ruined the sound but the video was a bit better)

Other easy conversions:Read pdf, .doc, .xls, .ppt, .rtf, .sxw, .sxc, and more on your psp-- NO CONVERSION - 12-18-2005 Get a G-mail address and mail yourself an attachment and the G-mail account will convert those files into HTMl:

I tried another MOV/MPG conversion using a website called:
http://www.badongo.com/
And they converted my file into a FLV format used in You tube. The Video was similar and the sound came out good.
Once again you upload the file and download the finished product without using a program on your computer.

Well here is one good thing for those who like youtube videos but hate to download and convert it, you can download youtube videos as mp4 videos instead of flv. Here
is a link to show you what ya need to do. It heleped saved me some time by cutting out the conversion side to make it work on my iPod. If you have an iPod touch though, one app makes it easier by just downloading the video itself onto your touch (or iPhone) with MxTube. I was using my PSP as my movie player, but now use my iPod touch as it for the ability to save more movies and videos onto it, plus its very easy to switch out what I want to see with iTunes (and besides since I buy from itunes I mostly stuck with iPod's)

Definitely PSP. I watched Heroes Season 1 on my PSP and it's just good. I didn't watch it on the go though. I used my psp to stream it through WiFi. Most of the video formats are supported and the software can shrink it for view in PSP.

Even if on the go, I will still choose PSP because it has the widescreen feel.

Personally I got to go with the psp. Its kinda like saying do you like watching tv on a 19" old square tv or do you like watching on a 30" widescreen. I don't see what the question is, its PSP all the way!
