Charging from the mini-usb

Having trouble with my UX50. I completed the modification of installing a wire from the charger port to the mini-usb and when I did that I broke the ribbon cable from the usb to the motherboard plug. Now when I plug in the mini-ubs cable to charge I get a green light on the UX instead of a orange light telling me it is charging. I also have the problem of the UX not working on the battery when the usb charging cord is disengaged, so I get the message on the UX of (do you want to install back-up dated ...). I am wondering if I fried the motherboard or am I not getting a ground I need to get the battery to power the UX.
If this seems a little confusing just reply on what I have not explained very well and I'll try to make this a little less muddy.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

When you say you "broke" the ribbon cable, did you really break the cable or did you just detach the connector between motherboard and cable? If so, this is not a problem - just make sure the cable is re-seated correctly. Check also that you have wired the correct pin on the USB port...

Yes, I broke to ribbon from the mini-usb to motherboard plug. I can still plug the motherboard in but I no longer can Hotsync with the mini-usb. I followed the instructions from JAmerican on the wiring of the mini-usb to cradle contact. I also forgot to mention that if I wiggle the mini-usb cable when plugged into the Clie I get the orange light to blink momentarily (1/2 second at most), that is my resoning behind the mention of the ground.
Thanks,
Jim

Did you solder the connection? I did not and found that the "frayed" end of the charging wire occasionally grounded against one of the other USB pins. In the end I twisted the strands of wire together tightly and pushed them through the rear of the USB port ensuring that each "strand" of wire was in the hole and none were left trailing.

I did solder the wire to the mini-usb and have had troubles with it staying soldered because the connection is so small. That is how I broke the connection from the mini-usb to the motherboard plug. I'll look over my connections again and make sure that I'm not touching another pin on the mini-usb.
Thanks,
Jim

When I carried out the USB charging mod, I noticed that there is a very small gap in the back of the USB connector. Instead of soldering my connection, I just inserted the new wire into the back of the plug and it has remained there securely ever since.

It might also be worth checking whether you have managed to create a short when you did the soldering...
