Need Help with Spectec GPS

I have the drivers for the Spectec GPS I got through eBay, but I can't get the thing to do any communicating. I'm not sure it is my T|E, or the way I installed the drivers & driver configuration.

I followed the instructions I foundon the Spectec website, http://www.spectec.com.tw/fix.htm#question2
and the status L.E.D. will flash some when you insert the SD card, but when I run the suggested GPS app (cotoGPS) I dont get any data.

I sent several email messages to the Spectec customer service tech, and one to spectec.com.tw and I have gotten no replies, or even a confirmation email.

Since I see these SDIO GPS units on eBay by the dozens, I'd expect Spectec to back up sales with some customer service. Also, since they have so many different ones (GPS camera, etc) I'd think that they would know what they're doing in reference to PalmOS devices.

There are so many settings for the UART and the SDIO driver, that I may not have something setup right. So I use the settings I'd use as if I was working with PC modem stuff.

I even got the eBay seller to send me a second unit to try, in case the first was defective. The second one works the same as the first.

I even did a hard Reset of my Palm and just installed the SDIO drivers to see if ZLauncher may be in conflict somehow. No difference.

Any ideas?

thx

Going to the link you posted I copied by hand this list(copy protected):
Here is the list of Palm OS handhelds using (TripPilot, Pathway, cotoGPS and GPS Trackerjet:
1. M505-Version 4.0
2. Tungsten T-V-5.0
3. Tungsten T3 V-5.2.1(but no mention of T/E)
4. Tungsten E-2 and Zire 31
5. Treo 650
Looks like you have four other GPS methods other than CotoGPS left to use....

The user manual states that the GPS receiver will work with the Tungsten E. It leaves me wondering if it says onething in the user manual and another on the web page. Wassup with that?

I have cotoGPS, but I don't use it for anything. I use the GPS with Mapopolis.

I also tried pathAway, which couldn't detect the GPS either.

thx

I got my Spectec GPS to work!

I read this on GPSpassion.com:

. without any card on your Palm, open SDUART APP. and press ok on the error message, and press ok when apear UNABLE TO OPEN SERIAL PORT., press menu/option/settings and then make sure of this:
Port SDIOCommDirect
Baud Rate 38400
Data bits 8
Parity None
Stop Bits 1
Trigger 32
Mode Byte
FlowCntrl None
(dont mark LoopBack)

What SDUART App? Something to test the connection, and set the partity, data bits, etc.

I set the baud rate for the SDIO driver (connections settings in the Preferences app) and the GPS settings (in CotoGPS) to 38400 and it started working. I also removed the Palm OS MMC driver first, but I don't know if it affected anything.

My Spectec 810 GPS works with CotoGPS and the Ranosoft Speedometer apps. I tried to get Mapopolis set up to use it, but it doesn't seem to work. I used "Special connection" for the connection type, and when I try to connect, there is a message, "Cannot load SDIO library" Any ideas on that?

If I make up an external battery pack, I can take my GPS away from the car

thx.
