| Stupid Computer & TH trying to confuse me!!
I just put in one of Vincent Vango's LG Chem batteries & just for kicks, and before restoring my data, decided to use the hotsync button on the cradle.
It worked!!!!
I tried it a couple of times, just to double check - and it still works!!
There must've been something on the TH that wasn't letting it sync.
Yay.
Must go off and sync some more..................... just in case LOL

| bah, spoke too soon.
I tried to local hotsync this morning & got the following error messages:
HotSync session completed with errors on 10/12/07 11:50:46
* HotSync session started on 10/12/07 11:50:42, and completed in 4.0 seconds
* HotSync detected a change in either the number or type of expansion slots on the handheld. ***Warning: Some applications that were to be installed to the expansion card(s) may not be installed during this HotSync operation.
* Protocol Error: Unknown error. (6410)
It also popped up with a 'Read/Write Error' message for pocket tunes - which I don't have installed. It asked me to restart my media player and try again, if it didn't work, go to the pocket tunes website (-7) - what ever that means.
Any suggestions?

| TH55 & Vista Hi Forum....
I am in need of some major HELP in getting my Sony TH55 setup for Vista Home premium edition on a HP duo core 64bit system. In order to download a Palm Desktop & hot Sync Manager (not able to see what version) the Palm site is asking for a Palm device drop down along with the OS drop down (Vista for sure).... and of course Sony TH55 is not there... What device do I tell it in order to get the 6.4 version or whatever will work... maybe...??????? Please e-mail me directly at cats2135 "at" Netzero "dot" net. Once I have it, is there a simple method to install it and also get my Sony to talk to the computer, if only to hotsync and to also get my 4cast program and conduits running again from shsh software.... ?????
Hopefully someone checks the forum on a regular basis........
Thanks,
cats2135

| Finding the data I finally found the time to look at this a little. I have Palm Desktop 6.22 and Hotsync 7.02 installed on Vista Ultimate and XP Pro.
On the Vista machine I see the data, but on the XP machine I did not (Splashdata is there... but not the standard build-in application data in the Palm Desktop).
After a bit of trial and error I found if I copied Address.db to Address.mdb in Documents\Palm OS Desktop\Username\address then when I open the Palm Desktop it finds the application data.
Similarly for the other apps.
When I look back at the Vista machine the files remain named *.db
I played a bit with the registry on the XP machine without stumbling on the secret.... but I suppose when I get time to make careful comparison of keys and/or files between the two machines I may discover the secret.
(One thing I am wondering is whether the .mdb format is associated with newer Palm devices and perhaps if the Clie is not recognized then it defaults to the new format) |

.mdb extension is used for Microsoft Access 2000/2003 files.

| Right - but I presume that is a coincidence (even though Palm Desktop is by 'Access'). I think the .mdb format that Palm Desktop is using is probably different (??). For the renaming trick to make the data visible it sounds like the format is almost identical to the .db format.
Or perhaps the Palm desktop is translating the .pdb files to Windows databases and MS Access is able to read the older format without barfing.
OK - I compared registry keys between the Vista and XP machines... I'll see if I can attach them in a moment |

| Difference in registry keys between working and non-working. See attachments.
Difference between registry keys in Palm Desktop 6.22 that is non-working (XP Pro, Left hand side) and one that is (Vista Ultimate, right hand side).
The differences are in 3 groups:
The .mdb vs .db filenames in the Component keys*, a single difference in the Conduit path (which must be irrelevant for this issue), and a difference in UIModule keys.
* I see the working version has only .db defined while the non-working defines the .mdb names that do not exist.
I changed the component and UIModule keys to match those on the Vista machine and I can now see the data.
[Note - I have not tested the Vista installation heavily - I have just set conduits to overwrite desktop with PDA and then verified that Palm Desktop can see the data] |
