Sorry, I haven't even had the chance to try and make the 3 pointed screw driver yet. It's been a long week at work.

Has anyone bought one of the Cover kits from Global Source? I saw that ic comes with one of the needed screwdrivers...anyone willing to send one to me to use?

I tried using the screwdriver supplied by Global Source and it stripped the screws. Now I am stuck with a face plate I can't use. I believe it's not just a Global Source issue. People who bought the face plates from Surplus PDA reported the same problem. Perhaps they use the same supplier. I'm not sure if it's the screwdriver or the screws being too tight causing this.

Check out the review at Gadgeteer:

WHY do companies (Sony) do silly things like that. It only buys them a short window until the special screwdrivers become available...

Forget all this useless opening up the PDA just see if the weight is the same.

to me, it wouldn't be useless if someone more enterprising than myself opened their th-55 up and found out that the only thing separating a non-bluetooth version from a bluetooth version is a quick fix like some jumpers or even a switch..

Maybe the bluetooth module in the Euro model is the same chip used in the bluetooth MS? Mooch, any updates on your unit? Thanks.

Brando has put up a screw driver for the TH55 screws on his site today.

I'm guessing that you'll find where the BT chip should go on the circuit board when you open your TH-55 up. The real problem is getting the BT chip to install in that place and having the proper equipment to solder it to the board without damaging the unit.

It wouldn't make sense to strap a chip to the ciruict board unless it was going to be used, even if it only cost Sony an extra $1 for the chip. That $1 multiplied by 10,000 units wouldn't make sense to write off.

Us TH-55/U users will ultimately just have to be satified with our WLAN usin' selves.

Most likely, if it isn't made by Sony, they have it made for them, and it is a proprietary deal, where they are the only ones that can buy them. Also, since the TH55 had to be submitted to FCC testing, they would not be able to include the BT circutry and get it to pass. As I recall, when the TH55 was first rumored, it was by someone who had access to the FCC testing of the unit. They submitted it with BT, but before it was announced, Sony voluntarily withdrew from testing, most likely because it wouldn't have passed. Anyone have the link to the intial TH55 rumor threads, it was in the spring of 2003.
