Symbian...how does it stack up?

Hey guys,

I've been currently in the market for potential PDAs to consider in the future. Something that I just have to have is cellular phone capabilities. In my research, I constantly come across Sony Ericsson's P910a and the Treo650. My father has a Treo600 so I am pretty familiar with it. However, the P910 looks like a pretty good device. However, I feel skeptical about the Symbian OS. Anyone able to comment?

PS - I'm still focused on the BenQ P50 tho. Seems like the perfect machine? Anyone know of similar devices?

I tried the P800 (very similar to P910) before and the main problem IMHO is the fact that you can't leave the PDA at home because it is also your mobile phone. Of course the OS itself still has some small glitches (like small crashes, slow response, etc) but overall I think symbian is in the right direction.

As always I miss the overall performance from Sony's HHE: it is strange that a larger screen and slower CPU actualy means faster applications.

Why would u want to leave your PDA at home though? If I could, I'd lug the UX50 everywhere. But since the UX50 is basically unfunctional without the EB40, sometimes its just impossible to take it out. Hence, my main problem with the UX. Specially when u need to carry a cell phone separately as well.

Well, there are moments when you know you won't be needing the PDA (going to the disco, to the beach, etc) but will certainly need the phone.

My UX50 battery is more than enough for mp3 listening throught my day (1-2 hours comuting to college, 1-2hours comuting back home), about 20 minutes of esporadic wifi when I'm lazy enough to refuse to get to the nearest college PC terminal and even reading ebooks. Of course I would have then to charge it every night.

As I wrote before, UX50 is certainly the best PDA I come up with but a PDA (whichever brand and model you might remember) is certainly not my first choice for surfing or any other intensive reading/writing works. Certainly good to take some college notes but not good enough to be my sole mate for subject's reports.
