what is the difference Zire 71 and Zire72?

Please bear with me, Is there a difference between the Zire 71 and the Zire72?
or is that people often confuse the Z21 and the Z72 last digit endings?

No - they are really two different models. The Zire71 was released in May 2003. As I recall, it had 16 meg memory, ran OS 5. It used the universal connector. The Zire 72 was released May 2004. It has 32 meg memory (I think) and has OS 5.2.1, including the updated PIMs. It has BT and uses the mini-USB connector.

You can probably find the specs on the Palm website for each device.

Not to nit pick, Vidge, but the Zire 72 uses Palm OS 5.2.8, which is the absolute latest that PalmOne has placed in their handhelds. It is basically just a minor update to the OS overall. Yep, 32MB of RAM total as well.

(and I'm really not purposefully nit-picking! )

That's what happens when you quote from memory as opposed to looking at the device. Since I have both of them here, I could have gotten up and checked but I was too tired.

Hi,

Paul from palmOne here. Yes, you can find a side-by-side comparison of all the handhelds at http://store.palmone.com/gridFamily...0554&cp=1795698

Best,

Zire 71 ( I used to own one by the way );

Palm OS5.2.1
640x480 capture on camera
16MB (About 13-14MB usable if not mistaken)
Joystick navigation
Palm Universal connector
No LED charging indicator
Sliding mechanism

Zire 72;

32MB
Enhanced PIMS
Palm OS5.2.8
Bluetooth
Brighter TFT screeen!
Mini USB connector
LED indicator for charging/BT

Hmm overall a worthy upgrade if you're an existing/new user!

Unfortunately, the Zire 72's LED doesn't indicate that Bluetooth is on. The LED is only green, and only tells you if you're plugged in to power and when you have an alarm go off.
