| Domains I tried to get a domain for my site, but what I want only has an .org extension avialiable. Are these extensions good, by this I mean will the search engines pick them up just like .com's ?
If so would the site show up on the first page, or on 4, 5.... |

| A domain is a domain. .org domains are usually for organizations and such. If this is a commercial site, a .com would be more professional. Also, the extension has nothing to do with how a search engine parses links. |

| As Robyr has said, search engines will crawl any domain. It's how you make your site popular and thus have your site place in the top. It wouldn't hurt making the domain easier to remember. If you decide to go with the .ORG domain, try to add the ".org" in the logo for more visibility.

As has been said. The domain suffix (extension) makes very little difference where a site is ranked in a search engine. The domain name itself is important. What also is important:
1. Put keywords into the title, urls, and heading tags. Make sure you put in only a few keywords that are most relevant to the site. The more words in a tag, the more diluted the value of a keyword becomes.
2. Have quality content that includes keywords.
3. Most importantly, get alot of incoming links to your site from other relevant sites. For example, Google treats these links has an indicator of a site's value. It is the quality, not the quantity, of the links that matter though. Sites that themselves are "important" weigh more heavily in the algorithm.
Make sure you get a domain name that is easy to remember. Secondly, there is nothing wrong with an .org extension. What I would stay away from is a .org domain name that also has a popular .com domain name. If possible a .com name is better because that is what people generally think of. But as we move into the future and more and more extensions are being approved and people become more and more internet savy, the domain name is more important than the extension no matter what the web site is about. A name of 2src.biz would be much better than 2srcforyourpalm.com. |

| finally, .org is being used more and more frequently for any type of site. It doesn't have to be an organization, non-profit or otherwise. While that was the original intent of the w3, it is not enforced, and as leslie said, getting the right keywords in the domain name is much more important than top level domain (extension). So go for it!
Do make sure to get linked to from other sites, so that you are more highly visible by the search engines.
