If you have your T3 on a charger while you are driving, go to Prefs>>Power and select "On" for the Stay on in Cradle option.

If your T3 isn't on a charger in the car, there are several different apps which will allow to disable the auto off feature. However, I'd suggest you stay away from this option and just get a car charger as you will very quickly drain the T3's battery which can lead to a loss of data.

Question 9: What keyboard allows connectivity with the T3 in portrait and landscape modes?
The T3 is compatible with the same three Palm keyboards that are compatible with the M500, M505, M515, T1, and T2. The original compact keyboard, the ultra-thin keyboard, and the new wireless keyboard will all work with the T3. The new wireless keyboard is the only one of the three Palm keyboard that allows operation in both the portrait and landscape modes of the T3. The original compact keyboard and the ultra-thin keyboard only support the T3's portrait mode. From my experience, the ultra-thin keyboard is the only one that locks, so you can set it anywhere without it folding up on you. The new wireless keyboard is the only one that supports landscape mode for the T3. The original compact keyboard is the only keyboard that has separate keys on top for the numbers (i.e more like a normal keyboard).

Question 12: What format does the Palm use to save voice memos?
When you record a voice memo to the internal memory, the T3 saves it as a PDB file in the internal memory. When you synchronize with you computer, the computer saves it as a WAV file. When you record a voice memo to the external memory, the T3 saves it as a WAV file on the external memory card in the Audio folder. On the T3, you can move them from internal memory to external memory and vice versa. The voice memos in the internal memory are the only ones that get synchronized with the computer.

Question 13: What about the video player, Kinoma? Which formats can it play? Is it fast enough?
The Kinoma Producer for Palm actually coverts the video into a Palm PDB format that can be played on the handheld using the Kinoma Player. Thus, the movies can be stored in internal memory of the Palm or the external memory of an SD card. It can convert the following video formats: MPEG-1, QuickTime, and AVI. The Kinoma Producer and Player work very well with the T3.Note: You will need to have the QuickTime Player installed, which is free.

Question 14: To conserve power, can you turn the screen off while the MP3's continue to play?
Yes. There is an option to automatically turn the screen off after a set period of time to conserve power. With RealOne Player on the Palm, go to the Option menu, and select Preferences. You can select 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes, and 3 minutes.

Question 15: Can the Photo viewer program show very large (3-4 megapixel) images?
Yes. It works very well, but you are unable to zoom in or out on the handhled. You view the entire picture, and that's it. The only option you have zoom in or out out a photo is to edit the photo before you HotSync.

Question 18: Can you also just take out the sd card, put it in a computer and transfer over a word document or excel spreadsheet and then the palm will be able to open it and read it?
Yes. Documents To Go Version 6 supports this ability. In addition, there are other applications that support or will support other native formats.

Question 19: Can I use the HotSync cradle that I use with my Palm Tungsten T or Palm Tungsten T2?
Yes. As long as the Palm HotSync cradle you have uses the universal connector, you can use it with the T3. Thus, this with include the HotSync cradles for the M500, M505, M515, Tungsten T, Tungsten T2, Tungsten T3, and the Tungsten C. This also includes most other accessories as well, unless the accessory uses software that may not be compatible with the T3. In these cases, check with the vendor.

Feel free to contact me with any questions/comments/suggestions.

I've been using a T|T3 for years now. I happened to reread this FAQ and would like to add some additional comments.....

#9 - keyboards
I've also used the Eforcity Universal Wireless keyboard. Overall, I'd recommend against it. The software driver re-enables itself when a soft reset occurs and when that happens, you can't hotsync nor will the auto-off function work. Get it only if you can find it for less than $40 (heck, maybe even less) and are NOT a serious/heavy typist

That being said, it does work in landscape mode. However, you need to lay your T3 flat on a desk in front of the keyboard, and due to the angle the bottom IR points at, your T3 has to be in lefthanded orientation.

#12 - voice memos
I've actually gotten this a couple of times, but Vmemos can be transferred from user RAM to exp card by opening up the Vmemo to transfer and then changing its category to SD card or some category on RAM

#13 - kinoma player
Kinoma Player is at version 3 and 3 EX. IIRC, the 3 EX also supports panoramic cubic pictures and media, as well as possibly other extra features. Unlike v2, for v3, both the Kinoma Player and the Kinoma Producer aspects are shareware, so you just can't settle with the freeware Player and stick with free downloaded stuff off the internet. Might as well, as there wasn't much to begin with and many of them were movie trailers.

TCPMP has been out for a while and plays many popular formats natively. It's freeware. mmPlayer can be considered a shareware version of TCPMP, but it may have some desireable features TCPMP doesn't.

#14 - RealOne Player
If you're using v1.03 of RealOne Player for Palm (this version comes on the T|T3 install CD), then this power saving feature won't be available unless you upgrade to a higher version. Alternatively, you can go through Palm Prefs and just set the handheld's auto-off to what you want it to be for RealOne Player as well. When the handheld auto-offs. If you find yourself switching to 30s for mp3s and 1 min+ for everything else, may wanna consider getting a launcher program that allows you to switch quickly between apps.

#15 - photo viewer
3rd party photo viewers like freeware VFSi or sharewares Spalsh Photo or Acid Image Viewer may allow for options like zooming, panning , and best fit screen.

#16 - sd cards and Office files
Using a card reader accessory or software utility like Card Export I/II, Palm File Browser, or PalmDisk will do the trick. By default, Documents To Go files are placed in the \documents directory of an SD card

#19 - hotsync cradle
Any accessories that work the other Palm Universal Connectors in terms of charging and/or hotsyncing will also work with the T3

I use handyAid for this. Here is the link. This is a pretty powerful program.

BTW
IT would not be bad to mention a digitizer drift problem in this faq. And also of course the solution we all know. powerDIGI.

I use this image viewer.

Quote:
GrxView Lite is a freeware image viewer with JPEG images support. It also includes file manager capabilities, image zooming/panning, thumbnail view and slideshow features.
You do not need to convert images: GrxView Lite reads them in a native format directly from the memory card, so you can review pictures taken with your digital camera right away.
